In this post, we share a video and its transcript created and presented by Illumination YouTube Coordinator introducing a prolific writer, poet, and supportive editor Joe Luca. Our goal is to cross-pollinate writers and readers for creating sustainable collaboration on Medium and other platforms.

“Dear Subscribers,
In this short video, I would like to introduce Joe Luca, a writer, poet, and senior editor of Illumination Integrated Publications on Medium.
Joe has started writing for a long time again. He has been contributing to the literary world since the 1980s. He had success with children’s magazines in those golden years. He loved writing stories for children. After that, he focussed on non-fiction articles in the financial sector. His writing tends to solve the problems of business executives. He wrote many business articles to inspire and inform his readers.
However, his life has been more than writing and educating his readers using observational skills. He has focused on finance, business management, mortgage, and home improvement.
Joe lives in Los Angeles, the United States, with his family. Coming from California, he caught the screenwriting bug. He wrote teleplays and screenplays. He also lived in New York and England for a while.
Joe joined Medium in 2019. He is part of the first group of writers joining the Illumination publication founded by Dr Mehmet Yildiz. Since Dr Yildiz enjoyed well-crafted stories of Joe, he invited him to be an editor for his prominent publication. Joe accepted the offer and supported this publication for the last two years.
He posted many articles on fiction, humor, and satire. He also writes inspiring poems. While he informs and makes his readers think, he engages with them meaningfully.
I asked Joe, why is writing important to you? He said:
“Humans are capable of thousands of thoughts every single day. When multiplied by 8 billion people on earth — you end up with too much, too quickly. Writing culls out the cool ideas, the ones that rose above the others, and gets a chance to become a story or poem or article and meet others out there who are interested in reading them. Every day there are life savings ideas and silly notions that can make people laugh that would be lost forever if we didn’t write them down. A writer’s greatest gift is someone who wants to read what they write.”
Then I wanted to learn whether he would continue to write. He responded saying
“I can’t see myself not doing this. I have woken up often in the middle of the night, unable to sleep, and made my way to my computer and wrote something. I could read. I could go outside and count the stars. I could work on a crossword puzzle or play solitaire — but instead, I write. It’s not just words on paper — I don’t think I could carry on if things were that final and unbending. I believe that what every writer writes gets “out there.” Circles around the globe, skimming the clouds and diving deep into the cities and over the rooftops looking for a place to land. And when those words find a home and feel content in what they do — the writer knows this and can continue. It’s simple, really. It is like breathing.”
