ILLUMINATION Is Two Years Old
Happy Birthday to Illumination and gratitude to readers, writers, and editors
Owner and Chief editor, Dr Mehmet Yildiz, established and announced ILLUMINATION on 19 March 2020. He created a Slack workspace and invited around 100 top writers whose content he enjoyed reading at the time.
When he shared his vision, strategy, and values, all invitees unanimously loved the idea and collaborated to grow this unique publication built on diversity and inclusion principles. Half of the group volunteered as editors inviting new writers. Within a few months, around 1,000 writers joined the journey as they enjoyed the value and free services of the publication.
Now, over 14,000 writers contribute to this significant publication with 52,000 followers on Medium. Dr Yildiz invited every ethical writer, regardless of their background and writing levels. He sees all writers as equal and cross-pollinates them. New writers learn from the skills of accomplished writers.
He does not allow toxic behavior like bullying, belittling, and discouraging new writers from growing. As a result, this cheerful, supportive, and optimistic atmosphere encouraged aspiring writers to become experienced within the last 24 months.
As a result, some of the beginners in 2020 now write great stories, become top writer in multiple topics, and earn substantial income on Medium. Some of their stories went viral brining them many readers. For example, a writer who started with around 1,000 writer has gained over 100,000 followers. A writer recently earned $19,000 from a single story.
Dr Yildiz created seven more publications and integrated them, giving flexibility to writers and more reading options to readers. Each publication has a different audience which offers an excellent opportunity for writers to find more readers. Illumination grows fast because Dr Yildiz created a supportive infrastructure for writers to collaborate and connect with editors. Eighty-seven volunteering editors support writers by reviewing their stories, publishing them, and answering their questions.
Some editors mentor new writers. For example, Dr Mehmet Yildiz mentors more than 300 writers to gain writing, blogging, and content marketing skills. Some editors provide free line editing services.
In addition, Dr Yildiz always listens to the requirements and expectations of readers and writers, providing viable solutions to address their needs timely.
Over the last 24 months, our publications published 500,000+ stories receiving millions of views and thousands of hours of reading times, bringing over a million-dollar income to writers.
Yet, ironically, the publication does not earn a single cent from its services. All services, including the owner’s time and contributions, are based on giveback spirit to the community. So, the owner and the editors do not earn income from services such as publishing and support on Slack workspace hosting 11,300+ members.

We compiled guiding documents in a post to make it accessible to our writers.
Dr Yildiz also created a blog publication to keep writer resources seperate from ILLUMINATION to give readers relevant content on the main publication. Writers can search for supportive documents from such as guidelines, photo handling policy, editorials, announcements, and process related articles on ILLUMINATION’s Blog.
We also collect writer biographies and distribute them to our readers via monthly newsletters. Therefore, we highly recommend our writers to introduce themselves in a bio story.
