This post introduces Michael Nagy, senior and consulting editor of Illumination Integrated Publications. Michael grew up in rural upstate New York in the cow-tipping country. He went to Alfred University in Alfred, New York, for ceramic engineering.

Having a 1.68 GPA his first semester, he realized that ceramic engineering wasn’t his major.

So, he switched majors to computer science starting his sophomore year and fell in love with the field. He got his BA three years later and went to SUNY Institute of Technology to complete a Master of Science in computer science in December 2008. Graduating with an MS during a recession kept him out of work for nearly two years, so he just kept learning how to program during that time with a personal project, which he is still running after 13 years.

Finally, at the end of 2010, he found his first job five hours away in the Boston area in the Healthcare Information Technology field. With a brief break in the middle, he stayed with that company for nearly ten years until the summer of 2021, when he switched jobs but stayed in the healthcare industry.

Michael has a two-year-old son and twin daughters born on Halloween this year. They went through IVF to have their kids. He is slowly writing about his journey through infertility on Medium.

Michael joined Illumination Integrated Publications as a writer. Dr Mehmet Yildiz recognized Michael’s outstanding expertise and passion for technology and software engineering. So Dr Yildiz invited Michael to become an editor for his publications. He gratefully accepted the position and generously contributed to the growth of these publications.

Michael plays a critical role in giving technical and technology advice to the team. In addition, his extensive technical and computer programming skills are valuable for the editorial team to extend and enhance Medium’s publication features for prolific writers and avid readers.

As an excellent team player with collaborative community spirit, Michael also moderates Illumination’s Slack workspace supporting over 10,000 members.

We’d like to share a few stories of Michael to give you a quick taste of his writing style and content.
