Meet Agnes Laurens
Senior editor at ILLUMINATION Integrated Publications on Medium
This post introduces Agnes Laurens, who is a senior and consulting editor of Illumination Integrated Publications on Medium. Agnes was born in The Netherlands to a Dutch mother and an Indonesian father. She focused on starting a family from the age of 19. She lives in The Netherlands with her husband and three daughters.
Agnes is a journalist by training. However, she is also a musician. She has played the violin since seven years old. Playing the violin is her biggest passion besides writing stories, articles, and poetry. When — and if — everything goes according to her plans, she will audition for the conservatory on her violin.
Agnes has been writing on Medium since 2016. She tried various styles. Her trial and error made her a prolific and experienced writer. She also created several of her own publications.
When she was asked to be an editor, for ILLUMINATION, by Dr Mehmet Yildiz, she was stunned because serving writers of Illumination as an editor would give her a great pleasure. In the first place, she thought: ‘Why me? I am just a woman on earth with no status.’ It was of course her modesty. She didn’t have to think about it for long and immediately accepted the offer. In her words, it was an honor for her to join the editorial team and collaborate with them.
As an editor, Agnes is looking for improvement with kindness. She loves to see what the writer can improve to become a better storyteller when editing. She connects with writers meaningfully.
Agnes thinks that Illumination is a lovely publication. The editorial team feels like a warm family to her. She is very grateful for the editorial role, helping writers, and connecting with them. She also features stories of writers such as this one.
Besides writing and editing articles, Agnes loves to write poetry. Her lifestyle choices inspire her to put her feelings, experiences, and observations into her poems. Lately, she explored new poetry forms. She publishes them into her own Poetry Love publication. She create several poetry prompts for poets.
Medium is not the only platform she writes on. She writes for the local newspaper, Vocal Media, Elephant Journal, HubPages, and Music List. She has a mailing list too. Agnes published several books. She also has an online web store and a merchandise store.
