Dear Writers and Bloggers,
In this short video, I want to introduce Bill Abbate, a senior editor of Illumination Integrated Publications on Medium. Bill is a retired business executive, certified professional coach, leadership consultant, avid reader, published author, and prolific writer with a substantial writing portfolio.
His articles have been published more than 2000 times on many platforms including Newsbreak, LinkedIn, Many Stories, his website at billabbate.com, with nearly 700 on Medium, mostly in Illumination’s publications.
Soon after Dr Mehmet Yildiz founded his Illumination publication on Medium, he asked Bill to become an editor for the new publication. Understanding Dr. Yildiz’s vision for the publication, he quickly accepted!
Bill lived a very different life than most Americans. He grew up all over the USA and the world. As a navy kid, he moved from Virginia to California when very young, then to Japan, Hawaii, and Europe (primarily Malta.) He finally returned to the U.S. in his teens.
To say bill moved often is an understatement since he went to 12 schools from the 1st through 12th grade. As a child, he loved learning Japanese and has many fond memories of Japan and its wonderful culture and people. He also enjoyed learning some Italian and Maltese while living in Europe.
A highlight from the time he lived in California was being chosen from more than 3000 scouts to be photographed with two of the stars of the American sitcom Leave it to Beaver, Wally, and the Beav! The picture was published in the Los Angeles Times in 1961.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and went on to work for, no surprise, mostly foreign-owned U.S.-based companies. During his 45-year career, he worked for two British, three German, one Scandinavian, and two American companies. He served in top leadership positions as President, CEO and Managing Director.
He traveled the world for much of his career, mostly between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Needless to say, he continued moving a good amount, from Virginia to Chicago to Florida, back to Virginia, to Atlanta, to Florida again, to Pittsburgh, finally retiring in Virginia. During his time in Atlanta, Bill introduced a major new construction technology for a German company in the U.S. and was featured on the front of the Atlanta Business Chronicle in 1993.
Retiring from corporate life in 2013, he Immediately attended Duquesne University and became a certified professional coach, quickly building a successful practice. More recently, he retired a second time and published his book titled Uncommon Sense, which has sold well both in the United States and abroad. It is available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.
Bill and Jane, his wife, are at the point in their life where they want to give back for the many blessings they have received. Jane is also an author who has published several books and has a YouTube channel called MyMentorJane where she mentors people. Bill and Jane are both lifelong learners and now spend part of their time coaching, consulting, and facilitating, mostly with church leaders and their teams.
In conclusion, Bill continues to write, hoping to help people live fuller, more productive, better lives. Most of his writing is about life and leadership, and he enjoys distilling life lessons and the wisdom of others into easy-to-read articles that will make a difference in his reader’s lives.
