ILLUMINATION Success Stories

Editors of ILLUMINATION

The powerful minds and leaders behind the success of a significant publication on Medium

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. — John Quincy Adams

As we embark on the next phase of our journey here at ILLUMINATION, I thought it a fitting time to introduce our editors, the key stakeholders and champions of our publication.

Our editors support ILLUMINATION writers and readers. They develop our processes and procedures and adopt technology for the betterment of our publication.

Our editors come from different professional backgrounds and have extensive writing, editing, and leadership skills. They bring expertise from multiple disciplines and enrich our diversity goal.

Even though each editor is unique with different skill sets, one common attribute among them all is how keen they are to support the success of our writers. As you know, publications on Medium do not generate income, hence all of our editors provide their services on a volunteer basis.

I admire the altruistic contributions of our editors.

Without further ado, I will introduce my role, and in no particular order, I will introduce a brief background and role of each editor on ILLUMINATION. I have provided some additional links for the further exploration of their backgrounds.

Dr Ron Pol — Consulting Editor

Dr Ron Pol is a consulting editor of ILLUMINATION providing guidance on vision, discovery, strategy and legal matters.

Dr Pol is a former lawyer and leadership consultant, late-career PhD in policy effectiveness and outcomes.

The language of ‘outcomes’ and ‘effectiveness’ is commonplace, yet meaningfully distinguishing outcomes from easy-to-measure effort, activity and output targets (often mislabeled ‘outcomes’) remains surprisingly rare.

The consequence is that intended objectives (in crime prevention, health, education, housing, workplace safety, etc) often remain persistently unrealized.

Dr Michael Heng — Consulting Editor

As an Editor of ILLUMINATION, Dr Michael Heng writes about sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), human resource management (HRM), strategy, politics, racism, talent management, blockchain technology, leadership development, wellness and Yijing (I-Ching).

Dr Michael Heng puts sustainability at the heart of his business. He envisions a brave new world with an abundant clean and limitless renewable energy future for all. Dr Michael Heng PBM has more than 35 years of senior management experience with local and foreign multinational corporations, including 14 concurrent years as a tenured Associate Professor with the Singapore Nanyang Technological University.

As a Sustainability Advisor, he was invited together with other international experts to the inaugural Hanwang Forum, which was created after the 2008 Szechuan earthquake, to form a permanent platform for collaborative action through transformative projects impacting the economy, the environment and society in China and globally for a sustainable, ethical and resilient society.

Dr Michael Heng was recognised on the National Day 2002 Honours List and awarded the Public Service Medal for community service by the President of Singapore. On different occasions, he has also received the Global CSR Leadership Award, the CSR Leadership Excellence Award and was also conferred the 2012 CSR Leadership Award. In 2019, he was conferred the Earth Care Award for “leadership in a business enterprise who promotes innovative eco-friendly alternatives for sustainable development”.

His Blue Leadership model embraces a natural partnership culture with the environment to bridge the nexus between sustainability and profitability to make them his twin business goals. Dr Michael Heng believes that embedding sustainability with economic value creation re-wires the business ecosystem by creating stakeholders’ value, build safer environment, healthy ecosystems and a stronger community.

The good thing is that he has written about his experience, you can feel the true feelings and raw honesty of his content. In his defense, he does believe in being a metaphorical open book with nothing off-limits.

Since he joined Medium in January 2020, he has put the hard yards in to engage and embrace all that is available. His skill set is evolving & growing constantly. He likes to get stuck in.

You can recognise his leadership skills gained from being self -employed in the early part of the Millenium. Moving forward you can start to see why he was a Kitchen Manager for 8 years plus, spanning an 11-year catering career. I do believe Brian has aspirations to do free-lance content creating.
