ILLUMINATION Writers Can Write For Other Publications

Clarification for writers for a frequently asked question

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Introduction

Imagine you are a customer of a shop.

A shop owner tells you, “if you buy from another shop, we will not serve you. You either buy from us or from the other shop. If you choose another shop, don’t return; we will not serve you because the other shop is bad, and we don’t like it.”

They shut the door in your face. How would you feel?

Now, ILLUMINATION Integrated Publications proudly serves 17,500+ writers and over 50,000+ readers on Medium daily. We are humbled and grateful for these writers joining us, enriching our diversity, and giving more options to our valued readers. Writers are our valued customers.

We do not seek contributing writers to be exclusive to our publication.

The purpose of this post is to answer a frequently asked question.

Our writers are asking whether they can write for other publications.

My answer is absolutely “yes”. The more publications you write for, the better it can be.

I am the founder of ILLUMINATION and created this publication based on diversity, inclusiveness, and collaboration principles empowering writers with innovative approaches such as cross-pollination for collective learning and mutual growth.

As the owner of this publication, I want our writers to try multiple publications and gain the visibility that they deserve. The more publications they try, the more experience they can gain. My focus is on the success of the writers. The publication is only a tool to amplify their voices.

ILLUMINATION embraces diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. Every writer of Medium is welcome to join our publication. Each writer is important and valuable to us. When we look at the big picture, in the end, we are all part of an ecosystem. Discrimination, exclusion, and elitism do not align with integration and the universal ecosystem philosophy.

Diversity, inclusiveness, and collaboration are core values of ILLUMINATION.

Each writer and each story is unique. I want our writers to find their voices in the most efficient way. I will support whatever works for them. Writers make a choice, not the publication. The publication is the service provider, and the writers are the customers.

It came to my attention that the owner of another publication specifically requested to make a choice between his publications or ILLUMINATION and openly pointed out that if they wrote for ILLUMINATION, the editor would remove their writer's access to his publication. This type of practice does not align with the values and philosophy of ILLUMINATION.

I respect the views and choices of other publication owners. I only felt sorry for the negative sentiments about ILLUMINATION. We are open, and I invite other publication owners to join us and learn with us.

My responsibility is to clarify the position of my publication.

Writers should always remain knowledgeable of the guidelines that editors require for inclusion in a publication. It is also a privilege to be part of publications as they are owned by their founders. I recommend that writers make publishing decisions based on their goals or strategy for using Medium. The goal of ILLUMINATION editors is to help our writers.

Medium is based on collaboration. We are part of this ecosystem as writers, editors, publications, and readers. In my opinion, we need to support each other, grow, and thrive mutually.

I am pleased that the chief editors of several publications write for ILLUMINATION, and we enjoy their contributions and collaboration. They bring a wealth of experience and create vitality for us.

We are not just quantity-focused but also high-quality-orientated.

To give you an idea of our makeup, ILLUMINATION has writers from various backgrounds.

We have a hundred plus doctoral and post-doctoral scientific researchers, several medical doctors, many professionals (e.g. psychologists, engineers, lawyers, actors, directors) hundreds of entrepreneurs and business leaders, many published and best selling authors, and hundreds of top writers. For example, 219 of our writers have had 417 stories curated to 80 different topics on Medium in fewer than three months.

You can see our curated articles and curation success in the attached story.

We also have new writers with huge potential. We bring all together and cross-pollinate in a safe and supportive environment. They can learn and grow by leveraging the inspiration of top writers. This practice is the innovation and leadership of ILLUMINATION. Nobody was born as an accomplished writer.

I made it crystal clear to my editorial team that we don’t compete with other publications; we collaborate and extend their valuable messages. As part of this ecosystem, the only way to survive and thrive is through collaboration. Competition can divide us and kill our growth. Win-win is always the best strategy to survive and thrive in all relationships.

Some of our writers created their own publications. Good on them! I am proud of them and support their entrepreneurial pursuits. I allow them to advertise their publications on our Slack channel and gain followers leveraging ILLUMINATION. I see their success as my success. It is a win-win.

I even extended our collaboration to potential subscribers of Medium. For example, I invited bloggers and published authors from other platforms to advertise their products and services on our Slack channels. I know that these groups of people can learn about Medium and can consider subscribing. This proactive approach is a growth mindset that all our editors agree with my strategy, support it, and practice it in our publication.

We support our writers, help them to find their writing voice, and want them to be successful. We extend and amplify their messages using innovative tools. For example, every story published on ILLUMINATION is syndicated to a Flipboard Magazine and pinned to Pinterest Board using Medium RSS service. Interestingly, our Pinterest Board has gained 93K impressions in a few weeks. We strive to bring new subscribers to Medium. This can benefit us and many other publications. We are part of an ecosystem.

Our external readers can follow our stories from a Flipboard Magazine.

Innovation is critical for writers’ success. We experiment with creative approaches using Design Thinking principles to empower our writers. For example, we extended the promotion of our writers to YouTube.

We welcome our writers to introduce their products and services by submitting videos to our YouTube channel. We won't censor your content. I can provide you with administrative access, and you can upload your promotional videos.

We are transparent to our writers and readers. Nothing is kept secret behind the doors. To make it easy for our writers, we documented our processes and procedures and shared them openly. If you want to know more about our publication and understand our values, please see our process and procedure manual.

To maintain transparency, I create daily editorial bulletins and share our writing practice, challenges, and plans openly by publishing it as a Medium story. You can access all my bulletins using the attached link.

I want to ensure that our writers are recognized and followed by creating visibility for a large audience. To this end, I invited our writers to write bios introducing themselves from their creative pens. This artifact became an excellent cross-pollination tool. You can explore our writers and connect with them using this story.

Conclusions

To conclude, as an ILLUMINATION writer, you are very welcome to write with us, and we will support you to grow as long as you adhere to Medium policies. We respect your philosophical views, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, profession, writing style, and any other lifestyle choices that you make. The more diversity you bring, the better for us.

Yes, you can write for other publications, and we will encourage you to do so.

We want you to gain new experiences and broaden your network by meeting new writers and readers from other publications. Many of our writers are successfully writing for other publications, and we support them.

Writers are not our slaves; they are our valued customers.

I mainly write about health and well-being topics.

Besides increasing the hormonal intelligence of my readers and writing about neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, GABA, and acetylcholine, one of my goals as a writer is to raise awareness about the causes and risk factors of prevalent diseases that can lead to suffering and death for a large portion of the population.

I aim to educate, create awareness, and empower my readers to take control of their health and well-being.

To raise awareness about health issues, I have written several articles that present my holistic health findings from research, personal observations, and unique experiences. Below are links to these articles for easy access.
