This Update Just Might Revive New World
At the time of writing this, the 24-hour peak was around 23,000 players, according to Steam Charts.

If you’ve read my previous articles, you’d know I’ve talked about New World a few times.
For those who haven’t heard of it, New World is an action combat MMORPG developed by Amazon Game Studios.
I’ve been playing New World since its release in September 2021.
It was the first MMORPG I’ve ever played, which means I didn’t have a frame of reference for the quality of the game.
Initially, the game was very popular, with around a million active players.
But as time went on, the player base kept on shrinking.
At the time of writing this, the 24-hour peak was around 23,000 players, according to Steam Charts.
There were multiple reasons the player base quit New World.
One of the main reasons was the plethora of bugs and exploits present throughout the whole game.
It took a while for the developers to fix all the issues, and adequate action was not taken against the exploiters.
Another reason was how repetitive the quests, enemies, and locations were.
There wasn’t much variety in enemy types all the way up to the max level.
In addition, various locations such as settlements and enemy strongholds were quite literally copy pasted with subtle differences.
The last main reason many people quit was the lack of content at the endgame.
The only things you could realistically do was either grind end-game dungeons or grind OPR (a PvP game mode).
You may be asking why I kept playing despite all these reasons to quit.
Well, as I said before, New World was my first MMORPG, so I had no frame of reference for how bad it was.
The more I played, the more I got attached to the game.
Even now, when I know why a lot of people quit, I can’t seem to stop playing.
I suppose I didn’t quit when everyone else did because I played through at my own pace.
By the time most players reached level 60 (max level), I was still around level 30–40.
By the time I reached level 60, the devs had added a bunch of new content and fixed most of the bugs and exploits.
Despite the fact that most of the bugs have been fixed and new content has been added, most players don’t want to come back since the new content isn’t adequate enough.
Luckily, the New World devs just recently posted an update video on YouTube, announcing their next big update.
The main aspect of this update will be the new Brimstone Sands territory.
The devs stated there would be three territories worth of content in this new massive territory.
It will introduce many different enemy types as well as a new weapon, the Great Sword.
Brimstone Sands will apparently be a very diverse territory with various structures and enemy types.
They’re also going to be making a bunch of different improvements on territory management.
For example addressing shell companies and economy balancing issues.
Additionally, they’re going to be heavily changing and improving the initial leveling experience from level 1 to level 25.
This will come with a bunch of positive changes to quests, enemy types, locations, and structures.
Hopefully, this means new players won’t see the same copy-pasted things everywhere they go.
Settlement appearances will change, and many of the copy-pasted locations will be completely redesigned.
Depending on player feedback with the improvement of the leveling process from level 1 to 25, they will continue to improve the leveling process all the way to level 60 later on.
Fortunately you will not have to wait long for this update since it will be released later this year.
Currently, the New World PTR (Public Test Realm) has been updated with the improved leveling system along with the new Great Sword. So if you’d like to test out the new content, you can get through the PTR.
The Brimstone Sands aspect of the update will be released on the PTR a little later after players have tested out the leveling process.
I have had high hopes for New World since I started playing, and although many people were disappointed, I really believe this game will make a comeback.
With all the new improvements the devs are making, including a whole new territory, I really hope it drives players back to New World.
