Covid Virus Finally Infected Me Despite Intense Cautions.

Even after receiving a complete vaccination, I suffered agonizing side effects, but I was grateful for not needing hospitalization.

Purpose of the Story

I briefly share my feelings and progress on a recent infection with the covid virus. It was a new experience making me more compassionate toward others.

Unexpected Infection

Since the earlier days of the pandemic, I have read a lot about the consequences of the virus and heard horror stories in the news, and read many articles about it.

Therefore, I have been highly cautious in following stringent procedures created in my country. For example, I wore masks and followed distance and isolation rules.

After two years, the virus finally found me out of nowhere. I got confused.

Recently, I only worked in my home office and met only a few friends, keeping my distance. However, none of those friends got it as they tested it the same day I got it.

The only suspect is a recent shopping experience at a grocery store. I am sure there were a few meters of distance with shoppers. It was nighttime.

So, despite my tremendous caution, I have no clue how I got it.

How I Felt

It began with a very irritated throat which I thought was just a regular cold for a few days. I then thought I might as well do a rapid covid test, just in case.

For those who don’t know, on a rapid test, two lines mean positive, and one line indicates negative. In my case, one solid line and one semitransparent line came up, which confused me.

I sent a photo to my friends and family members to ask if they knew what it meant. They weren’t sure either.

So I decided to go to bed and do another test in the morning. The sleep was restless.

When I woke up, I was feeling awful. I couldn’t get out of bed. It was so bad. I had never felt such an energy deficiency in my life.

Once I finally built up the energy to get out of bed, I did another rapid covid test. This time it was clearly positive.

I immediately sent a photo of the test to friends and family members I’ve seen recently to urge them to get a covid test.

For the next two days, I was barely able to get out of bed, freezing, and had pains all over my body as well as a severe headache. I couldn’t breathe properly.

My sleep quality decreased. I’m not sure why but I also couldn’t get much sleep despite feeling extremely tired. Additionally, I wasn’t able to nap during the day.

The worst impact was on my mental clarity. I couldn’t think straight. Everything looked dull. It was like brain fog which I never experienced before.

After a few days, the symptoms were moderately bearable.

How I Improved

A medical doctor (relative) advised me to take high-dose vitamin D3 for a few days. As soon as I started taking the tablets, the chest infection reduced.

The pain was reduced. Energy levels slightly increased. I felt much better. Apparently, vitamin D contributes to reducing inflammation.

I recently read an article from Dr Mehmet Yildiz on how he dealt with chronic inflammation, and he interestingly mentioned the anti-inflammatory benefits of vitamin D in his story.

I still had an irritated throat and no energy. I couldn’t go to work and do my chores. My physical and mental health significantly suffered.

Therefore, I couldn’t write articles, post Youtube videos, and contribute to the Illumination publications as a volunteer editor.

I just laid down and rested all day, hoping to recover quickly. I’m still not feeling well. But I gratefully have significantly less pain and headaches.

At this rate, I should be fully recovered by the isolation period, which is mandated where I live.

Fortunately, I was fully vaccinated. I believe the fact that vaccination helped me significantly.

Some family members and friends who got the virus before immunization experienced severe reactions. They were all hospitalized.

If I hadn’t had vaccinations, I would probably be in the hospital now. So I am grateful for vaccines protecting us from this virus’s side effects. A few friends and family members also testified to the value of complete vaccination.

The side effects were excruciating, but I am thankful for not being hospitalized.

Gratitude to Friends and Family Members

During isolation, family members and friends did not leave me alone, contacting me via my mobile phone. In addition, we had online chats and video calls safely.

Their support boosted my mood and sped up my healing progress. I’m just grateful I didn’t suffer too much.

I am also grateful for the support of my friends and family members. Without their support, I could have felt awful with the severe side effects.

Interestingly, social media friends from YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Medium also provided support.

This experience increased my empathy and compassion toward those who suffer from infectious diseases.

Thank you for reading my story. I wish you a prosperous life.
