Beginners Guide to Gaming Gear and Peripherals
Enhance your gaming experience by investing in affordable gaming hardware

An Overview of Gaming Gear and Peripherals
Whether you like to play games on gaming consoles, mobile platforms, or PCs, you will most likely need or want specific gaming gear and peripherals to enhance your experience.
When I say gear and peripherals, I mean hardware such as Monitors, Keyboards, Mice, Headsets, Controllers, and Gamepads.
First, I’d like to introduce gaming consoles.
If you go out and buy a brand new Playstation 5, you’ll receive the console, a controller, and the necessary cables in the box.
Gaming Headphones and Microphones
If you want to play online with friends in a party chat (group call), you’ll need either a headset or earphones with a microphone.
Of course, you could just use any headphones lying around the house, and if that’s what you want to do, more power to you.
But if you want high-definition surround sound with a quality microphone, you’ll want to opt for a proper gaming headset.
There are multiple reputable brands that sell high-quality gaming headsets.
Here are some of the most popular:
Razer (https://www.razer.com)
Logitech (https://www.logitechg.com)
Corsair (https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/)
HyperX (https://row.hyperx.com)
Steelseries (https://steelseries.com)
The best all-around gaming headset is a matter of preference.
Personally, I prefer using Razer hardware, but many of my friends use Logitech Hardware. A gaming headset can be an excellent purchase to enhance your gaming experience.
Gaming Controllers
There are also many “pro” controllers out there for competitive players.
Pro controllers are high-end, high-quality controllers that can significantly improve a gamer’s performance due to some of their unique features, such as:
Remappable extra buttons
Swappable D-Pads and Joysticks
Adjustable triggers
Grippier components
There are multiple brands out there that offer Pro controllers with different features to cater to different types of players.
Here are some of the most popular controllers:
Xbox Elite Controllers (https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/accessories/controllers/elite-wireless-controller-series-2)
Scuf Controllers (https://scufgaming.com/eu/)
Razer Controllers (https://www.razer.com/au-en/console-gaming)
Brands like Scuf offer fully customizable controllers so consumers can build their own controller with whatever features and styles they prefer.
I use the Xbox Elite controller for most of my Xbox and PC gaming.
Moving on, next, we have gear and peripherals for the PC platform.
Gaming Keyboards and Mice
If you want to play on a gaming PC, you could just use any office keyboard and mouse you have lying around.
For casual non-competitive gamers, that would be enough. But for proper game enthusiasts, I would recommend getting a gaming keyboard and mouse that have certain features to cater to the activity.
Gaming keyboards can have features such as:
Highly responsive mechanical switches
Customizable button layouts remappable through software
Customizable keycaps
RGB lighting which syncs with whatever game you’re playing
Gaming Mice can have features such as:
Precise tracking
Remappable buttons
Ergonomic designs
RGB lighting which syncs with whatever game you’re playing
There are a number of brands out there with high-quality gaming keyboards and mice. Here are some of the most popular:
Razer (https://www.razer.com)
Corsair (https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/)
Logitech (https://www.logitechg.com)
Roccat (https://www.roccat.com)
Steelseries (https://steelseries.com)
I use a Razer keyboard and mouse. A few of my friends use Logitech and Steelseries peripherals. We are delighted with the quality and versatility of these products.
Gaming Monitors
Another piece of hardware to consider for PC gaming is a gaming monitor. Any monitor should be fine for whatever game you want to play if you’re a casual gamer.
But there are many monitors with exciting technology out there that most gamers use.
Gaming monitors can have features such as:
High refresh rates/FPS (Frames Per Second)
Curved panels
High resolutions
Low response times
Organic LED technology (OLED)
Some of the most popular gaming monitor brands include:
Gigabyte (https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor)
I use a very high refresh rate LG monitor, and so do a few of my friends.
Final Words
In conclusion, there are many different peripherals and additional gear gamers use to enhance their overall gaming experience.
Without this additional hardware, gamers could be missing out on a more immersive and fulfilling experience.
With just a little research, all gamers can precisely find what they need to enhance their gaming experience.
