Overwatch 2 Is Almost Here

An introduction to a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter game for gaming enthusiasts

Introduction to Overwatch Game

We have been enjoying this exciting game for a while. The original Overwatch game was released in 2016. Overwatch has been one of my favorite games.

For those who don’t know, Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter game developed by Blizzard Entertainment.

Overwatch is mainly the competitive side of the game that players get attached to and try to improve to achieve a higher rank.

The primary competitive game mode is a six versus six, with three leading roles, Damage, Tank, and Support.

The Damage player’s main objective is to eliminate their opponent with their various weapons and abilities. However, they are fragile and require backup from their team to survive.

The Tank player’s main objective is to lead and protect their team. They have high damage resistance but still, have the ability to attack.

The Support player’s main objective is to empower their allies by healing, shielding, boosting damage, and disabling the enemy.

Overwatch works off a “Hero” based system. In which players select the Hero they wish to play as before a game starts depending on their play style.

For example, some Damage heroes use different weapons and have different abilities at their disposal.

There are 32 heroes in total that we can choose from. 17 Damage heroes, eight Tank heroes, and seven Support heroes.

Update on Overwatch 2

I am pleased to inform you that the Overwatch 2 game is scheduled to release on the 4th of October 2022.

Three years after Overwatch launched, Blizzard Entertainment announced the development of “Overwatch 2” at their annual gaming convention, BlizzCon.

It’s a sequel to the original Overwatch game. However, it is not how most people expected.

Overwatch 2 is transitioning Overwatch PvP (Player vs. Player) into a free-to-play seasonal construct.

They stated they’ll be making dramatic changes to the basic format of the primary competitive mode.

They’re reducing the team size to five versus five, allowing only a single Tank player.

They’ll also add a few new heroes to the roster, while the existing heroes will have their abilities and weapon functions reworked.

So far, Blizzard Entertainment has already announced two new Heroes which will be added to the roster;

Sojourn is the name of the first hero. It is a Damage Hero that most players predict will be an alternative to an original Overwatch Hero “Soldier 76” since both their primary weapons are different rifle variations.

Junker Queen is the second hero. It is a Tank Hero that rewards aggressive gameplay and melee-range combat.

Two currently unknown heroes will be added in the Tank and Support roles.

Blizzard Entertainment also announced they are developing a PvE (Player vs. Environment) mode, which will feature narrative-driven content to delve into the story of Overwatch’s setting and characters. (Similar to other first-person shooter games)

It was initially meant to launch alongside the multiplayer, but it was delayed and is expected to release in 2023.

More importantly, Overwatch 2 will feature new game modes, Heroes, map types, and more, to our surprise.

Since Overwatch 2 is intended to overhaul the existing Overwatch PvP rather than a sequel, I see it as a relaunch, replacing the original Overwatch game.

Public Beta Testing

There was a free PvP public beta testing period in March which has unfortunately concluded.

In addition, there is a second PvP beta testing period which began on the 28th of June.

If you wish, you can request opt-in to the beta via this link.

Blizzard is also offering the “Waypoint Pack,” which is essentially a pre-order for the “legendary edition” of the game with immediate access during the beta testing period. It also includes in-game the following content such as:

Season one Premium Battle Pass.

Two legendary Space Raider Hero skins.

2000 Overwatch two Virtual Currency.

Exclusive Overwatch two player icon.

I believe gamers find this news exciting.

Happy gaming!
