Video Game Cheat Creators Receive Harsh Punishment
The cheaters weren’t just selling harmless cheats. They were selling software capable of giving players in-game currency.
Today, I share my observations and thoughts about gaming cheats and ramifications. It is a big issue in gaming communities.
For example, Genshin Impact is a popular action RPG (Role Playing Game) developed by miHoYo. I haven’t played it myself, but I have a few friends who thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience.
But this article isn’t specifically about Genshin Impact itself. It’s about what happened to a few cheat creators who sold cheats for this game.
Cheating isn’t a new thing in Genshin Impact. In fact many cheats have gone under the radar from the developers since they were simply single-player cheats.
It did not impact the multiplayer aspect, so it wasn’t too big of a deal. But in 2021, three Chinese cheat creators developed a multiplayer cheat that gave players a very unfair advantage.
These three cheat creators sold over 40 thousand access keys to their software. They made an illegal income of over $300,000.
According to finance.sina (a popular Chinese finance website) these three cheat creators were arrested in 2021 for selling Genshin Impact cheats.
Just recently, they have been sentenced to four years in prison. This is reportedly the first time Genshin Impact cheaters have served jail time.
The person responsible for the three was sentenced to four years of prison and a $50k fine. His main accomplice was sentenced to three years and ten months of prison along with the same fine.
The third helper received the smallest punishment: one year and six months in prison and a $10k fine.
Now you might be wondering why game cheaters are getting such severe punishments on earth.
Let’s look at it this way.
These cheaters weren’t just selling harmless cheats. They were selling software capable of giving players in-game currency.
The in-game currency in Genshin Impact is mainly acquired with real-life money. This means these cheaters were essentially stealing money straight from the Genshin Impact developers.
They gave endless in-game money access to over 40,000 players, which you can imagine heavily affected Genshin Impacts’ income through in-game purchases.
After that realization, I can understand why the punishment was so severe. This is the perfect example of why you shouldn’t cheat in online games.
Not only did these three cheat creators get arrested for selling their cheat software to 40,000 people, but they also received very hefty fines for their actions.
They essentially robbed Genshin Impact of their in-game purchases and sold them to other players.
Just imagine how many cheat craters would be in prison right now if all game developers were just as strict as the Genshin Impact developers.
Cheating wouldn’t exist anymore.
But sadly, it still does exist, and I’ve seen firsthand what cheaters can do in online games.
