Leadership for Writers
The Importance of Mentoring for Writers
Peer support is essential for success.
“A mentor empowers a person to see a possible future, and believe it can be obtained.” – Shawn Hitchcock
One of the distinguishing factors for our publication is ongoing cross-pollination among writers. Our writers strive for giving and sharing.
We have mainly accomplished writers, experienced writers in multiple domains, talented beginners, and a few aspiring writers just starting to write on Medium with expertise in various disciplines.
We work in harmony by learning from each other, supporting each other, and extending our content for better meaning and greater insights for our readers.
Our publication challenges our writers to progress iteratively. Several of our writers successfully completed 30-day writing challenges and several other improvement initiatives to level up.
These enthusiastic and diligent writers substantially improved their articulation, reader engagement, and writing styles.
Several writers went outside of their comfort zone and created stories in various domains beyond their expertise. Some writers shared their results using various metrics and measurement systems. We know that mentoring is important for writers' self-development and mental health.
To continue the cross-pollination, I want to start a mentoring initiative among the writers. From my professional experience, I know mentoring is one of the best tools for growth. It is beneficial for both mentors and proteges for various reasons.
We have many published authors and experienced editors in multiple disciplines. There is a wonderful opportunity to leverage the experience of these inspiring writers and editors. To this end, I want to propose each experience writer mentor less experienced writers.
Mentoring can also be among experienced writers who want to try different genres or expertise fields. For example, a writer in the leadership field may tap into the technology field.
An experienced fiction writer may try non-fiction or vice versa. Some of us may try poetry. Combinations can be numerous. We can explore and pair our writers to level up in new challenges. Learning is a lifelong process.
Please consider whether you want to be a mentor in certain fields and genres or a protege for certain fields. You can share your wish list in our Slack channel, where we can facilitate the activity as part of our innovation agenda.
This is an initiative for our writers to level up in quality and quantity. This initiative can also further enhance our diversity, synergy, and fusion.
We can add structure to the process and measure our progress using our innovation tools. The process can help us achieve our goals in a collaborative manner with productive joy.
Let’s keep sharpening our swords to provide better service to our readers.
Thank you for reading my perspectives.
