Meet Dr. Yogesh Haribhau Kulkarni PhD
Senior editor of Illumination Integrated Publications on Medium
In this post, we introduce Dr Yogesh Haribhau Kulkarni (PhD), who joined our publications as a volunteer editor supporting with reviewing and publishing process in his spare time.
Closely collaborating with our chief editor Dr Mehmet Yildiz, he volunteers to support our special publication Technology Hits, as his expertise relates to this unique publication giving voice to tech writers and storytellers. His journey at Medium started in November 2022.
As a volunteer editor of Technology Hits, he reviews new technology-related stories, which helps him be the latest on what’s happening in the tech world.
Dr. Kulkarni is a Principal Architect working in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Before that, he used to work in the domain of CAD (Computer-aided Design, Geometric Modeling) in various roles, right from Software Engineer, up to Software Development Manager — Site Leader.
He has worked in companies such as Parametric Corporation, Unigraphics, Geometric Solutions, and Autodesk. He holds bachelor's, masters, and doctoral degrees in Mechanical Engineering, with a specialization in Geometric Modeling algorithms.
He published many papers in scientific journals and participated in local and international conferences as a speaker.
After his doctoral research, he changed his domain from CAD to AI, did consultancy, and is now in a full-time role at Icertis, Pune, India.
On Saturday mornings, he teaches at his own alma mater, the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP), as an Adjunct Professor of subjects related to Data Science.
On Saturday afternoons, he has made his time available (called ‘Office Hours’) for anyone to ask him queries about AI, ML, NLP, and Mid-career transition to Data Science. Open and free to all.
Dr. Kulkarni is active in local communities, organizing talks and meet-ups related to Data Science. He has been nominated as a Google Developer Expert in Machine Learning for the past three years.
He also serves as a member of the Board of Studies for various local engineering colleges to decide curricula related to AI and Data Sciences.
Besides technical interests, Dr. Kulkarni likes to dabble in hobbies like playing flute, yoga, summarizing long-form content, and sketching.
Combining his familiarity with technology and sketching, Dr. Kulkarni has started creating sketch notes to summarize and explain complex technical concepts.
One of his sketches on ChatGPT went viral on LinkedIn and Twitter and garnered more than one million impressions.
As an influencer in his disciple, his posts get significant views on LinkedIn. Here is a graph showing his content performance.
His other popular sketch notes are related to Micro SaaS (Software as a Service), Do-BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers), Transition to Data Science, Personal Selfie, and Professional Selfie (resume as a sketch note).

Dr. Kulkarni has been a Top Writer on Medium in the ‘ideas’ and the ‘future’ topics, apart from other tags like ‘sketch note’, ‘hobby’, and ‘natural language processing’ in three months.
Dr. Kulkarni lives in Pune, India, with his family, wife, and two daughters. He had primarily stayed in the same city all throughout his life so far, barring three years, when he completed his master’s degree at Kansas State University and worked in Boston, USA.
