Meet Gareth Willey
Top writer and editor of Illumination Integrated Publications on Medium.

In this post, we’d like to introduce an experience writer and a new editor of Illumination Integrated Publications on Medium. Let’s meet Gareth!
Gareth Willey is a proud Welshman from the UK. He likes to take long walks in the rolling hills and hikes up in the valleys. He said they have three times more sheep than people in Wales. Approximately three million people and nine million sheep in there.
Professionally, Gareth is a photographer and photo editor. He has been doing these jobs for 15 years, from weddings to nude studio sessions.
With photo editing, he has done everything from retouching to photo manipulation. These days, he takes his camera and a selection of vintage lenses with him on his long walks. This is his happy place.
In his spare time, Garet also loves to yodel and sing. He has been yodeling for about three years and hopes to do something with it one day. But for now, he just enjoys annoying people with it!
A few of Gareth’s achievements include climbing Mount Snowdon (the highest peak in Wales). He presented a TEDx Talk on the subject of Japanese Minimalism.
He went from fat to thin, from couch to marathon, within a year! He also completed an ultra-marathon of 32 miles just after that. These days, he loves to do spin classes.
Gareth is a proud Minimalist and follows the stoic philosophy. A few years ago, he decluttered his life and removed at least 90% of his possession from his life, including his bed!
As a result, he now sleeps much better on the floor. It sounds mad, but he recommends looking it up. Everything he owns fits into a suitcase.
Minimalism has allowed him to do quite a lot of traveling this year. He traveled from the cities of South Wales to the Isle of the Scottish Highlands. It’s been fantastic for him. But at the end of the day, he thinks that there’s no place like home.
Gareth has been blogging for over ten years on multiple platforms. He found Medium 2.5 years ago and has found a place here.
He does not feel he has to stick to a niche here, so he is free to write about whatever comes to his mind. He has found a home here on Medium and a circle of supportive, like-minded friends.
Because of his love for writing, reading, and engaging with other writers, he decided to join the ILLUMINATION editing team.
Gareth wants passionate writers to have a platform. As a volunteer editor, he reviews submissions, provides supportive feedback to writers and publishes their stories timely. He can be contacted on Illumination’s Slack Workspace.
Gareth is only 27-year-old, but he achieved a lot in less than three decades thanks to his passion for living a meaningful life.
He was active on social media with many followers but he decided to have more meaningful connections as he explained in one of his stories that we curated in this post.
