Write For Us — A List Of Publications Open to New Writers

And how/where to apply

It would be awesome if there were a centralized publication application form. That would be awesome. Unicorns are also awesome. What do these two things have in common? Neither one exists.

Unfortunately, I’ve got a mustache — not a magic lamp — so my powers are limited. So, instead, you get this big ole list of links to publications accepting new writers. But at least it includes their submission guidelines and how to apply (application form, comment on the submissions page, email, etc.)

It’s been six months since I created this and the pub landscape has changed a bit. So I updated the list, adding a bunch more, including the new boost pubs. However since Medium doesn’t send updates, I had to create a new post. But I know many of you have bookmarked this page so I didn’t want to take it down either. So here is the updated version:

A few notes about this list:

• Please! Please! Please…read the publications’ submission guidelines/rules before applying. And read them again before submitting your first article.
• Expect probably at least a day, if not a few days to hear back regarding your application.
• This list was accurate as of the day of writing. And each pub says they are open to new writers. But, if you’re reading this from the future — ooh la la! Do we have flying cars yet? Do they grow bacon in Petri dishes? Future people can proactively look for pubs currently seeking writers clicking on these: Call For Writers, Call For Submissions, and Write For Us.
• Don’t forget to include your Medium handle, which is @your-name.
• Ask, don’t demand — and overall be friendly and nice. Remember that publication owners and editors are volunteers. Volunteering their time to help the Medium community.
• This isn’t an exhaustive list…it’s just what I could find.

• If you can’t find it, you can find out who the editor(s) is(are) by going to the about page (https://medium.com/publicationname/about). So go to the pub page, add /about to the end of the URL and find the editor(s)
• You can then check their profile and see if they have an email and email them.
