Engage is a new publication designed to inspire and foster meaningful connections between writers and readers on Medium.

We aspire to achieve this by curating and publishing high-quality stories that entice, resonate, and authentically reflect the human experience.

Engage upholds the same principles conveyed in the latest Medium-quality standards update: our stories are created by humans for humans, aiming to ignite authentic engagement and instill a sense of reliability in the writing chain by sharing stories that speak to the heart of our shared humanity.

We’ve worked in the editorial world for several years and have seen many publications come and go.

Millions of people publish their writing online, but few get the needed engagement.

To write is to want to be read. Vergílio Ferreira says it better than I ever could:

“We are destined to navigate our thoughts through words, to express our emotions through language, especially if we seek to connect with others. However, it’s crucial to recognize that words are not just tools; they are like stones, carrying the weight of the spirit that flows through them.”

Our mission is to conjure the magic of this unique connection between you and the reader carried within your personal stories, insights, life lessons, and everything else you have to share with the world that feels authentic, genuine, and unique.

We know there are so many different ways to run a publication, but we felt like something was missing from what we saw: a space for writers to share their stories that would focus on engagement.

We launched this publication to create a platform for writers eager to share their work with readers and authors.

Our vision extends beyond just a showcase; we want this to be a space where individuals, whether new to the craft or seasoned veterans, can delve into the art of writing and storytelling, discovering and honing their skills.

If your experience is relatable, heartfelt, or carries actionable insights, we want to publish it and cross-pollinate your writing across multiple channels to help you grow your audience.

We embrace a diversity of voices and ideas.

4. Submission guidelines

  • Submissions must be in English.
  • Please add “Engage” as one of your five story topics/tags.
  • Stories ideally range between 500 and 3,000 words for optimal engagement. However, we are open to long-form content, provided the author can keep the narrative flow engaging.
  • Beginning January 1, 2023, we will only consider unpublished pieces (we may still consider published stories per editorial invite).
  • We are looking for authentic and genuinely human stories, so we do not accept entirely AI-generated stories.
  • Please submit via the Medium Story Editor. We can only publish stories via the official platform feature.
  • Under our umbrella, all writers are treated equally to ensure that readers have access to the best content available.
  • We reserve the right to make minor changes to your story. We will only do this to improve readability and ensure that the story adheres to our standards and Medium rules.
  • Regarding format, you can save this piece as a standard style guide for all your Medium stories, as it has been optimized according to the platform guidelines.

5. How to write for Engage

We hope you will join us on this new journey and share your thoughts.

So, suppose you’re a writer passionate about a more relational Medium and someone who values genuine engagement. In that case, you are welcome to send your application by email to [email protected] (you can also leave a response below as a reminder), and we will add you as a writer.

When you join this community, you must consider yourself a vital link in the writing chain.

We don’t expect you to send us your stories and then leave. We are a covenant of kindred authors. A writing chain is only as strong as its weakest link; thus, it helps when we support each other.

So, it would be great if everyone engaged and read the stories shared in our publication. By reading the work of others, you are reinforcing the power of engagement and ensuring the writing chain grows and remains strong.
