Summary

The Ace Space provides guidelines for contributors focusing on formatting, content preferences, and a strict no-AI policy.

Abstract

The Ace Space is actively seeking contributions but has specific guidelines to maintain quality and integrity. Writers are encouraged to format their articles with bold headlines, subheadings, a brief introduction, and include an image with proper attribution, preferably from Unsplash. There are no strict length requirements, but longer pieces may be split into multiple parts. Currently, the publication is not accepting fiction, with a preference for non-fiction and short poetry. The editor, Matt Mason, emphasizes that AI-generated content is strictly prohibited and will result in article rejection and removal from the publication. To submit, writers should add the publication's tag to their draft and submit it for review. Older drafts are also considered.

Opinions

  • The editor values clear and consistent formatting, which is essential for maintaining a professional and readable publication.
  • The preference for non-fiction and poetry over fiction suggests a curated focus on certain content types, possibly due to the editor's expertise or publication goals.
  • The explicit warning against AI-generated content indicates a strong stance on originality and human-created work, emphasizing the importance of authentic authorship.
  • The acceptance of older drafts shows flexibility and a willingness to consider a wider range of submissions, which may be encouraging for new contributors.
  • The use of Unsplash for images is recommended for ease of attribution, reflecting a commitment to respecting creative rights.

How to Write for The Ace Space

A simple guide to formatting and content

So you’ve decided you might want to write for The Ace Space! Hello and welcome. I have just a few guidelines for writing here. If you’ve been on Medium for a while there’s a strong chance you know what is expected.

Formatting

I’m going to keep it simple.

  1. Headlines should be in bold (as above)
  2. A second line should be set to subheading (as above)
  3. A brief introductory paragraph (as above)
  4. An image (as above). This must have attribution. It’s handy to use Unsplash because when embedding into Medium, the attribution appears. If it is your own work, please indicate this instead
  5. There is no minimum or maximum length though if it’s a hefty piece (anything over about 2,500), please consider whether it might be better split into two separate pieces. We will not reject longer pieces though

Sorry, but no fiction for the time being

At present, the publication won’t be taking fiction. As it’s just me (Matt Mason), I am concerned about spending too much time reading multiple short stories and chapters in the three- or four-thousand-word range. So for now, non-fiction and short poetry.

No AI

Goes without saying. Any detected AI in your articles will not just result in the rejection of your article, but removal from the publication. You have been warned.
