Sailor’s Code (Expectations for Seasoned Writers):
The Kraken Lore sails through the deep waters of literary excellence, primarily seeking seasoned writers with a strong command of fictional craftsmanship. While we value all artistic endeavors, our community is best suited for those with substantial writing experience. Aspiring writers are encouraged to hone their skills and join us when ready to meet our rigorous standards.
Above Average (Eligible for Boost nomination and acceptance into TKL):
- Exceptional clarity, structure, and coherence.
- Compelling content that fully engages the reader.
- Impeccable grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Distinctive perspectives or insights that enrich the narrative.
- A powerful conclusion that ties the story together, leaving a lasting impact — Avoid cliffhangers!
Average (Accepted into TKL):
- Clear and well-organized content.
- Engaging, though not extraordinarily captivating.
- Minimal grammatical errors or typos.
- Effective in conveying the intended message, with some insights.
Below Average (Likely to be Rejected):
- Disjointed and incoherent, challenging to follow.
- Lacks engagement and may be dull or uninteresting.
- Numerous grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors.
- Fails to convey the intended message effectively.
Treasure we pillage (Stories we accept):
We welcome completed drafts from any genre. Newcomers to The Kraken Lore can submit stories up to 7 minutes in reading time.
*Note: we do not accept previously published stories.
For our seasoned Kraken authors, there are no bounds to story length. Lengthier submissions may require more editing time. Our editors might use private bookmarks for tracking — please keep these intact.
Loot Quality:
Submissions must be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar. Pieces with excessive errors will be returned for improvement. Consider using the free tool, Grammarly.
Avoiding the Bilge (Unwanted Content):
All stories must comply with Medium’s guidelines. We steer clear of poetry, erotica, politics, or other sensitive subjects.
“Medium is not a place for fully AI-generated stories, and 100% AI-generated stories will not be eligible for distribution beyond the writer’s personal network.” — Medium’s Quality Guidelines
Echoing this stance, heavily AI-influenced submissions will not be accepted. AI can augment, but not replace, human creativity.
Setting Sail (Tagging Requirements):
Please use ‘Fiction’ as your primary tag, and ‘The Kraken Lore’ as a mandatory secondary tag.
Voyage Timetable (Publishing Timing):
Our editorial seas are busier than ever, and review times may now extend from up to a week out from submission. We navigate submissions on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have a preferred date for your story’s voyage, please mention it in a private note for our crew’s consideration.
Our fleet sets sail with new stories at scheduled times: 4 AM, 6 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM, and noon EST, Monday through Friday. This cadence ensures your tales catch favorable winds for optimal readership and allows sufficient time for review for boost nomination by Bradan Writes Stories.
*Note: We typically dock our ships on weekends to maximize views during peak traffic. However, if weekend publishing is your port of call, let us know, and we’ll chart the course accordingly.
Preparing to Sail (Additional Requirements):
Stories must include a kicker, title, subtitle, and an attributed image. For formatting guidance, refer to FJCMontenegro’s Style Guide to ensure smooth processing.
