Writing for Fantastic Fiction
What you need to know.
What kinds of stories we accept:
We accept stories that have been thoroughly edited and are well thought out. If I see spelling or punctuation mistakes, I’ll let you know. If I feel like there are major plot holes, I’ll let you know.
We accept fiction stories of all kinds, though we are especially eager to receive genre fiction, particularly fantasy. However, other genres are encouraged to apply!
We are more than happy to accept writers new and old to Medium, as long as the content is up to snuff.
You’re welcome to cross-publish stories here that you have published elsewhere on the internet (e.g. Simily, a personal blog,… other places) but we don’t accept stories that have been previously published on Medium. You must submit unpublished drafts only.
What we don’t accept:
- Erotic fiction or graphic material
- Stories with hate speech, or other hateful themes
- Heavily politicized stories
- Stories created by AI. We want your personal and human experiences, insight, and creation, not some computer-synthesized generalization of dubious ethicality. Also, if you’re not interested in the creative and expressive art of writing, why not go find something that you are interested in and passionate about?
If you continue to submit stories that fall into these categories, after fair warning, you will be removed as a writer from this publication.
On Poetry:
While poetry is wonderful, this is not a publication geared toward poetry. However, poetic prose is always a plus, and an exception could be made for epic poems. Think: Odyssey, The Lay of Leithian, Beowulf…
Housekeeping:
- Make sure your story is thoroughly edited, and spell-checked. Please run it through a spelling and grammar checker.
- Make sure that you have at least one good quality, and sourced image to accompany your story. Unsplash is an excellent and convenient source for images!
- Ensure that you have added five appropriate topics to your story and that one of them is “Fantastic Fiction Story”. If you forget to do this, we will change the last topic to correct this.
- Make sure you’re submitting an unpublished draft.
(Edit) One More Thing:
- Starting August 9th 2023, Fantastic Fiction will be reviewing all submitted stories on the first of each month. So if you submit your story say on September 2nd, then you might be waiting a while for a reply. Just a heads up so you don’t think I’ve forgotten about you, (and for me to keep my sanity and not push the whole project away for 2 months because it all became a bit overwhelming.)
How to apply:
If you’d like to be a writer, please follow this publication and drop a message down below saying, “I’d like to be a writer of Fantastic Fiction!”
