Write For Practical Growth
One of the most popular growth publications is looking for new writers.

Welcome to Practical Growth
Practical Growth publishes evidence-centered and thought-provoking articles and essays that encourage personal and familial healing and growth. We seek to break the pattern of generational trauma and the stigmas that exist around love, relationship, and recovery.
Who does this apply to? Everyone with a growth mindset. Every survivor who has overcome a broken family, a painful connection, or the struggles of living in a chaotic and divided world.
Practical Growth encourages submissions from all genders, countries, beliefs, and walks of life. We value unique perspectives and personal stories which demonstrate a connection to the core lesson.
Our Goals
We’re not a content mill at Practical Growth. We work toward real goals that have the real lives of our readers in mind. Each editor and writer at this publication know what it means to suffer and bring themselves back from the brink. That’s why our goals are made to:
- Share informative stories that encourage people to improve their own lives
- Break the taboos that still surround mental health and dysfunctional families
- Open up a dialogue around the different experiences of trauma and recovery
- Stop the mass spread of misinformation in the well-being, relationships, and psychology niches.
We seek to change the conversation by creating new conversations. We value the input of every perspective and know that the more diverse our conversations are, the more helpful and freeing they become.
Guidelines
Ready to submit your work? You need to become a writer with the publication first. To do that, you can fill out this form — including your name, email, and Medium handle. Once you’re ready to write, make sure the content you submit to the platform follows these guidelines:
- Make sure the story qualifies for one of the publications categories (we do not accept poetry or fiction).
- Ensure your story has no more than 3–4 sentences per paragraph. (This guarantees readability across mobile devices.)
- Vary the length of your sentences and paragraphs.
- Use Medium’s various headers to separate different sections of content.
- Proofread your draft using editing software like Grammarly or ProWriting Aid.
- Aim for a read time of 4–7 minutes (that’s between 600–1.8K words).
- Cite any evidence-backed information or concrete statements made in relation to health, wellness, and psychology through direct links or APA citations at the end of the article.
- Credit any photos used including personal photos. Unlicensed images are not allowed and will be replaced using the publication’s image database.
- Optimize your article or essay’s SEO settings (you can read more about that here).
- Do not submit stories that have already been published in other Medium publications.
- Use a headline analyzer (like the one from CoSchedule) to ensure your headline is SEO optimized.
- No affiliate links or advertorials allowed.
- Include a footer with author information and your Medium membership link (see current publication footers for examples).

What We’re Looking For
Don’t get it twisted. Other publications on this platform may have flashier platforms (and marketing), but Practical Growth is one of the longest-running and most reliable healing and personal growth publications on Medium. We’ve been producing high-quality articles and essays since 2019. You could be a part of that.
Check out these examples to get clear on what we expect from our writers:
The Editing Process
Our publication has a team of editors that work hard to make sure your stories meet the standards. These standards aren’t personal. They are created to ensure that your words are viewed by the people who need them. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, it’s not realistic for us to hold the hand of each writer through every step of the process. Your content needs to start strong and stand on its own.
That’s why our editing process works like this:
- Rejected: If your submission has grammatical errors, horrendous formatting, fails to follow any of our guidelines, or violates Medium’s content rules — it will automatically be rejected.
- Accepted but needs work: On the occasion that we are impressed by your work (but it needs some help) we will use Private Notes to work with the writer on improving the content.
- Accepted: Submissions that meet all guidelines and standards, with minimal errors or changes needed, will be published to Practical Growth and featured on social media and in future newsletters.
Please keep in mind: Our editors are located around the world, which means each is working within a different time zone. Please be patient and allow up to 48 hours for your submission to be processed and accepted (or rejected). If you are successful, you will be notified by email when your story is published.
Tagging Your Stories
Tagging is a great way for readers and writers to find one another on this platform. That’s why the publication has created a hashtag just for our writers to use (Practical Growth).
- Before you submit your story to Practical Growth, make sure to tag it in the settings with Practical Growth.
- Your article must contain at least one of these following tags as well: Relationships, Family, Mental Health, or Psychology
- The other Medium tags that you can use for your articles include Life, It Happened to Me, Family, Parenting, Narcissism, Trauma, Recovery, Inspiration, Motivation, and Life Lessons.
