Medium Guides:

Writing guides for Medium.com can be a bit tedious, but it seems that many people find them useful. I’m always glad to research a subject to absolute boredom/death and then share the best parts of the information.

With that in mind, here are several complete guides covering topics such as earning money on Medium.com, writing online for money, Medium curation, building email lists as a blogger, and how to apply to publications as a beginner.

Medium Hacks and Tips:

After almost 1 year of heavy, heavy use of the platform, I’ve come across dozens of tips and tricks that aren’t readily known.

How did I find these? By reading anything and everything I can about the platform. And tinkering. I love tinkering with the online platforms that I use.

Just even playing with the “/” function on a lot of website addresses can lead you down some interesting roads.

Want to see the most popular articles a publication has ever posted? Type “/archive” after the publication name in the URL bar.

There’s tonnes more interesting tips and ‘hacks’ (as the kids say) in these articles.

Lists of Medium Publications:

Some of my most popular articles are these massive listicles of publications. When I first joined Medium, I didn’t really understand what a ‘publication’ was.

I thought it might be similar to a real-life magazine. Or perhaps it was something like Wired. I didn’t know, so I spent a lot of time figuring out what it was.

For those that don’t — it’s essentially an online collection of people’s articles — usually privately run. Authors need to apply to be added as a writer on a publication. Once that’s been approved, they can then submit individual articles for approval by that publication.

There are more than 12,000 publications on Medium, but many are no longer active.

Of these, the vast majority are privately run. Some of them do get paid by Medium if they are large enough.

There’s also a handful (10+) of Medium owned publications that are run as a magazine.

One of the biggest things I struggled with was finding where to put my wide variety of articles and stories. That’s why I started making collections of publications.

And now, 8 months later after starting that…well, here’s are a lot of categorized publication lists for you! Enjoy!

(Note: Almost all of these lists are of publications that still accept writers and are still active. They do tend to change this policy occasionally when they get overloaded, so a few may no longer do that nor be active now. If you see that, please let me know in the comments! Thanks!)

Interesting Things About Medium:

With almost 300 million visitors to Medium.com every month — there is bound to be an insane amount of interesting articles to read.

After all, something keeps bringing them to the website!

I’m always a sucker for an interesting story — especially when it’s backed up and even more when it includes data.

So, occasionally I set out to discover some of these data-heavy interesting aspects of Medium myself.

Who is popular on Medium? Why do people get a lot of views? What makes Medium editors select certain stories as ‘popular on Medium’? Etc etc.

I found these topics interesting, maybe you will too!

Special Mention: Medium Writer Twitter Database

I have one last article to share. It didn’t get many views, but I’m hoping over time to change this a bit.

Medium is inherently connected to Twitter, the founder of Medium.com, Ev Williams, was a founder at Twitter itself.

I wanted to make a list for those of us that also have a Twitter account to connect — and here it is!

Wrap up

That’s it! For now at least. Thanks for reading and I really hope you find some of the articles useful.

I do plan on writing a few remaining topics and areas that I haven’t covered.

It’s my goal to get those written in the next couple of months and add them to the list here.

You can also keep track of my new articles (about this and other interesting subjects — plus some ‘odd’ humor occasionally) with my free newsletter!

Lastly, I have a publication for any and all articles related to blogging and Medium. We have a guest writer section so if you feel like joining, just mention it in the comments!

Thanks and have a great day!
