Sony Has Just Revealed Details on the PlayStation VR 2
Gaming News

Back in 2021, Sony announced the PlayStation VR 2, and now we finally have some extra details, thanks to a recent announcement by Sony.
If you don’t know about the original PSVR, here’s a brief introduction. The first virtual reality headset PlayStation made was released back in 2016 for the PlayStation 4 console.
Unlike modern-day VR headsets, it was kind of clunky, had a bunch of cables, and required external equipment set up around the room in order to track the headset and the controllers.
The PSVR 2, on the other hand, will compete nicely with other modern VR headsets. Here are some of the details Sony revealed recently.
PlayStation VR 2 Specs
The PSVR 2 will have two separate displays per eye within the headset with a resolution of 2,000 x 2,040 per eye, which will be using OLED HDR displays. The headset will also have a 110-degree field of view, as well as a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.
The headset itself, as well as the controllers, will use six-axis motion sensors and four cameras on the headset for tracking. An IR camera will also be used for eye-tracking. There will be a regular 3.5mm headphone jack, which will dynamically adapt to your position and head movements.
Best of all, though, the headset will only require a single USB-C cable in order to operate. A huge improvement from PlayStation’s first VR headset.
PlayStation VR 2 Controllers
Unlike the reused controllers for the first PSVR, the PSVR 2 will have all new controllers titled the Sense Controllers. These feature the following.
- Haptic feedback
- Adaptive triggers
- Precision tracking
- Finger touch detection
- An ergonomic design
Using finger touch detection, the Sense controller will be able to replicate natural motions and gestures.
PlayStation VR 2 release date
The PSVR 2 will launch on the 22nd of February, 2023.
If you are interested in the PSVR 2, you might probably register to preorder on the official PlayStation website since it will most likely sell out very quickly.
PlayStation VR 2 price
Sony’s recommended retail price for the PSVR 2 is $550. This is a big ask since this means the VR headset will cost more than a PlayStation 5. Compared to the first PSVR, the PSVR 2 is almost $150 more.
The $550 price tag will include the headset as well as the new Sense controllers. You can also get yourself a $600 bundle which includes a copy of Horizon Call of the Mountain.
The PSVR 2 will be available for preorder on the 15th of November, but in order to preorder, you’ll have to sign up for the preorder, which will require a PlayStation Network ID. After you’ve signed up, you’ll receive an email detailing if you’ve been selected to preorder.
PlayStation VR 2 confirmed games
Here’s a list of games confirmed to be released for the PSVR2.
- The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR
- Horizon Call of the Wild
- Crossfire: Sierra Squad
- The Light Brigade
- Cities VR: Enhanced Edition
- Cosmonious High
- Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue
- Jurassic World Aftermath Collection
- Pistol Whip VR
- Zenith: The Last City
- After the Fall
- Tentacular
- Resident Evil Village
- Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2
- Samurai Slaughter House
- Runner
- Among Us VR
- Firmament
Aside from the high price tag, the PSVR 2 seems to be a good competitor to other modern-day VR headsets currently available.
Although I probably won’t get one as soon as some other dedicated PlayStation fans, the PSVR 2 is a very appealing option for virtual reality gaming. I can’t wait to see how it ends up compared to other headsets.
