Minecraft 1.20 Was Just Announced By Mojang
The first snapshot will come in a few days!

At the recent 2022 Minecraft Live event, Mojang revealed a few details about the upcoming 1.20 update, along with its approximate release date, which will be around spring 2023.
They also stated that the first snapshot for this update will be available “a few days from now,” which will include a few of the upcoming features. Additionally, Mojang also announced the winner of the recent mob vote, which I’m relieved is the Sniffer.
If this is the first time you’re hearing about the Sniffer, here’s an introduction to it written by Mojang:
Let me introduce you to the sniffer, one of the three mobs you can vote for in this year’s Mob Vote! What once was lost is now found in this extinct mob. Revive the species and help it thrive once more! All you have to do is search chests in underwater ruins for sniffer eggs, bring them to the surface, and help them hatch.
These gentle giants are known for their horticultural skills. They are the only ones who can find long lost ancient seeds that you can grow into new, unique plants!
Unlike previous major updates, Mojang has not yet named this update but is currently hoping to work with the community to characterize it.
During the event, Mojang did talk about a few of the many features which will be added. Here are the ones which they talked about.
New Default Skins
Seven new default skins will be added with the 1.20 update alongside the classic Steve skin.
Mojang introduced these new default skins so that players have more options to represent themselves without having to immediately switch to a custom one.
Bamboo Wood Type
Much like other logs, bamboo will now have a plank type of variant with a few new constriction materials.
Mojang showed off a few builds which could incorporate this new material, as well as the boat variant, which can be crafted with bamboo.
Chiseled Bookshelves
Chiseled bookshelves are a bookshelf variant that can store six regular books, enchanted books, as well as books and quills.
Plus, they can be used with a Redstone comparator to send a Redstone signal.
Hanging Signs
Hanging signs are a new variant of signs which can hang from the side of a block, hang below a full block, or hang from a small block (fence or chain).
It can be crafted with stripped logs and chains and can also be crafted from all woof variants, as well as bamboo.
Additionally, much like a regular sign, the text can be made to glow with a glow ink sac.
Camels
Camels will be a new entity that will be added alongside the sniffer, but unlike the sniffer and much like a horse, it will be rideable. In fact, it will be rideable by two players.
Due to its height, mobs such as zombies and husks cannot reach the player riding it. Additionally, camels are especially useful since they can leap over wide obstacles, such as rivers and ravines.
I’m excited to hear more about this update and especially excited to try out these mentioned features in the upcoming snapshot.
