Let’s Talk About The New Features of the Playstation 5
Although it may look similar to the previous controller, there are significant differences that I introduce.
A Brief Intro to Playstation 5
I had been looking forward to the Playstation 5 since it was announced in 2020. Since I’ve had some time with it, I thought I’d share my thoughts on this new console.
The Playstation 5 is Sony’s latest gaming console, directly competing with the Xbox Series X. The Playstation 5 is a massive step up from the Playstation 4, which was released in 2013.
As you can imagine, there have been many graphical and technological advances since the release of the Playstation 4.
With that being said, here are some new features that distinguish the Playstation 5 from the Playstation 4.
First, I will begin with the technical specifications.
The Technical Specifications of Playstation 5
The Playstation 5 features a 3.5GHz 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU and a 10.3 teraflop RDNA 2 GPU.
It also features 16 GBs of GDDR6 RAM and 825 GBs of SSD storage which seriously cuts down on the lengths of loading screens.
With the help of these powerful new components, the Playstation 5 is potentially capable of gaming at either 60 FPs in 4K or 120 FPS in 1080p. (Depending on the game)
A notable new feature of the Playstation 5 is the brand new Dualsence wireless controller.
Although it may look similar to the previous Playstation 4 controller, there are significant differences.
One of these differences is the adaptive triggers. What this means is the triggers on the back of the controller have variable tension capabilities.
Depending on the game you’re playing, the triggers will either loosen or tighten depending on what you’re doing.
For example, if you’re aiming with a bow & arrow, the further you pull back the arrow, the harder it gets to pull the trigger.
This is a very immersive feature in a few games I’ve played on the Playstation 5. The sensation is new but very cool.
Another feature of the new Dualsence controller is the improved haptic feedback system. Instead of traditional rumble motors creating vibrations in your controller, the dualsence controller features dual actors.
With these dual actors, the vibrations in the games you play feel a lot more precise and realistic.
Compared to the DualShock controller, the dualsence feels absolutely surreal. For example, the Playstation 5 comes pre-installed with a controller demo game that showcases its new features.
This demo pictures a bunch of little robots in your controller and prompts you to move your controller around to feel them move.
As I tilted my controller side to side, I could literally feel each individual virtual robot moving around through the controller. It was a truly surreal experience.
I don’t understand how Sony made it feel so realistic, but I’m very impressed with how it turned out.
The dualsence controller can also be used for communication, similar to a gaming headset. Similar to the DualShock controller, it features a speaker on the front of the controller.
But unlike the DualShock controller, it is of higher quality with the addition of a microphone and a mute button.
Therefore if you don’t own a gaming headset, or you just prefer not to use one, you can simply use your controller to talk with your friends in a party chat.
When it comes to the games themselves, the Playstation 5 offers an all-new Playstation Plus subscription, with potentially access to hundreds of Playstation 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and PSP games.
Buying additional games on top of the cost of the Playstation 5 itself can be very expensive, with average games costing between 80 to 100 dollars.
But with this new subscription, playing your favorite games from current and previous consoles becomes a lot cheaper and more convenient.

There are also some new features on the software side of things. You can now join up to two party chats simultaneously, with the ability to switch between the two seamlessly.
The game HUB is also a new addition that is accessible from the quick menu.
It will provide information on in-game trophies, news on the current game you’re playing, previously captured screenshots and clips, and live streamers currently playing the same game.
Multitasking is also a new feature added to the Playstation 5. This means you can display things such as your party chat in the corner of your screen while playing a game.
The Playstation store will also recommend games you may be interested in, depending on games you already own.
The Playstation 5 is a revolutionary new gaming console with a bunch of new features significantly rising above the Playstation 4.
Not only does it feature a bunch of new hardware and software features, but also seriously improved technical specifications.
Final Thoughts
Although new games are released for both Playstation 4 and 5, the Playstation 4 is still reliable enough to satisfy your gaming needs.
Investing in a Playstation 5 will become inevitable soon enough, though.
It won’t be long before the newest games become Playstation 5 exclusives and unavailable on Playstation 4.
Some in-game features will only be accessible through the Playstation 5. It is the current future of gaming in our society and is driving the gaming experience to the max.
So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the Playstation 5, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
