Valentine Edition of Woodworkers of the World Unite!!! #6

The latest work on our new publication (Feb 7–14)…

The heart of WotWU!!

From my wooden heart to yours of flesh and blood, Happy Valentine’s Day. I love y’all!

Thank you readers, writers and followers of WotWU. You are truly the heart of our humble digital home.

Please, let me ask up front here, contact me at [email protected] to become a writer if I haven’t reached out to you, and also so I can add you to the WotWU contacts list.

Since this is Valentines Day, a day that I think causes most of us to become writers, to expunge the suffering and loneliness inflicted by a commercial day of forced amity, I thought I’d customize my standardized prompts. The point of Love is, supposedly, that we do things for others. So I have appended “someone” to each prompt as you will see below:

  • Prompt 1: anything you’ve made for someone. Whether from paper, glass, metal, ceramic, wood, or the heart of neutron stars, please write about, and show (photos, drawings, video) your projects. I will post such stories under the Wood page — please check other stories here for ideas.
  • Prompt 2: anything you do for someone. Whether art, craft, career, learning, please explain how you do what you do. I will post those under the Work page — please check that page for ideas.
  • Prompt 3: anything funny, unique, or surprising which will make someone stop and savor that moment… I will post those under the Wit page.
  • Prompt 4: anything about someone else’s life. Especially about your special someone, your family and friends, things which explain how you navigate the eddies and currents that push and pull us all. I will post those under the Wisdom page.
  • Prompt 5: anything poetic, wondrous, and beautiful for someone’s sake, I welcome with an open heart and will post on the Wonder page.
  • Prompt 6: anything your kids (of any age) make or write or record, I will treasure and post on the Wee Wuns Works page.

The Humble Home for Wayward Words…

These are the latest stories that y’all have submitted and I am honored to host on WotWU.

May I request each of you to:

  • Read your fellow writer’s works
  • Clap (you can give up to 50 claps), and comment.
  • Please tweet or post on Faacebook a few of your fellow-writer’s stories on your social media. My socal media presence is still very much embryonic, and I need all of you to help for a bit until I can be more effective publicizing your work. I also forget often — so anything each of you does will help all of us.

Since last week’s updates, we have published work by the following:

un p'tit je ne sais quoi has submitted numerous wonderful multimedia poems on love and passion, something that empowers woodworkers:

Patrick M. Ohana has been by far the most prolific contributor, giving us two poems each day, wonderful explorations of AI, and giving a much needed voice to our brother trees (I only post the first three of the week here — please check out the main WotWU site to read the others):

The Secret Aspirant has gifted us with a couple wonderful pieces, one a conversation between AIs, and the other giving us some lighthearted options for a lonely Valentine’s Day:

Synthia S. has given us a wonderfully personal and spooky woodworking story:

Bridget Webber has written a beautiful poem celebrating the ancient and magical Yew:

J.D. Harms has contributed a couple amazing and personal poems that you just have to read and experience:

David Rudder has given us an atmospheric and evocative poem, like the will-o-the-wisp he writes about:

R. Rangan PhD has written a couple pieces for us, a wise and wonderful essay about family, mindfulness, and knitting, and a haiku with fascinating science explaining how some animals hibernate:

K. Barrett has given us a couple of wonderful pieces about making things from wood and learning from our bird-brethren:

R Tsambounieri Talarantas has gifted us with several amazing stories. First is a stunning retelling of an ancient Greek folk story with Poe-like echoes, then a conversation about love, and finally a reflection on what we leave behind:

Carlos Garbiras has started something exciting and I am happy to be a small part of, and that is his chapter-by-chapter unveiling of a novel about entrepreneurial delusions. Here is is first chapter (he welcomes feedback):

Melissa Gouty has written an amazing and informative essay about the humble wooden pencil, and a philosopher-poet you’d never associated with it, or with industry:

Suntonu Bhadra is a first-time WotWU writer who has written and photographed an amazing poem about a woodcut illustration:

Mia Verita has crafted a passionate poem that has set the walls of our humble digital home on fire:

Pablo Pereyra is another first-time WotWU writer who has given us a wonderful and oddly erotic poem about mountain biking:

Robert Trakofler has written an amazing poem that expresses what many of us feel in today’s troubled times:

William J Spirdione gifted us with a fantastic sonnet written kindly in response to my son’s prompt last week:

John Griswold has written a great review of a book all woodworkers should get on the fundamentals of joinery:

Terry Mansfield has written for us a lovely poem about his father’s pocket knife and the carving he used to do with it:

America Zed has written a beautiful and uplifting poem — which I think we all need right now:

John Levin has written a wonderfully quirky, light, yet deep tale of what it means to be an aspen/human:

Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) has written a most wonderful poem that explores the 6W’s of Woodworking:

Thank you all for your fantastic stories this past week. I look forward to more from you all.
