Globetrotters Stories 28 August — 3 September
Another busy week in the publication and some amazing stories!
This week we had 64 stories submitted to Globetrotters! The publication is growing by leaps and bounds every day, week, and month! It’s been fun to witness.
Thank you to everyone who submitted stories this week! For this weekly wrap-up you have kept me busy and on my toes with stories from every continent except Antarctica!
Stories of the Week
I have read every story submitted this past week and have to say that my two favorites are from Kristina Moravkova about her bikepacking trip with her husband and young son.
As a kid that traveled extensively with my parents, I know full well the impacts that travel can have on young minds. Adventures like these get imprinted in our subconscious and they quietly shift who we become as adults. I applaud her for not allowing her son to stop her from enjoying life, but teaching him how to do it as well! Oski, is lucky to have such adventurous parents!
JoAnn’s Weekly News
Thank you to JoAnn Ryan for always keeping us up to date. If you haven’t read her recent update, check it out below.
Writer Spotlights
We had three new writer spotlights come in. If you are a Globetrotters contributor we encourage you to tell us a bit about yourself like the ones below have done.
August Monthy Challenge Wrap Up
We wrapped up the August monthly challenge “Road Trips” with Anne’s finale post where all of us editors choose our favorites. There were many great posts!
Here are the final road trip submissions this past week:
Anne writes about going back to her roots in Romania.
Maja Savic takes us island hopping in Croatia.
Shubha Apte takes us road-tripping in India.
Kim Baker’s road trip post came in after the contest deadline but it is still a legit road trip:) In it, we go to the West Coast of the USA.
Elvie Lins also submitted her road trip story in September. She takes us around Barcelona, Spain.
September Monthly Challenge — The Harvest and The Food
I introduced our September monthly challenge this week. This month we are accepting stories to do with growing, harvesting, and eating food! Here is the prompt to inspire you:
One of our editors, Anne Bonfert started us off with her recollections of gardening and how it forms a part of her culture in Germany.
I (Jillian) wrote about my experience with growing food both at home in Canada and around the world.
Stories from around the world are separated by continents
North America
Terry Dip writes of his adventure on the bus in Mexico and meeting a guy whose bus got robbed.
Linda Ng tells us about a beautiful botanical garden in Toronto.
Valerie Delzer takes us back all the way to 1987 in her post about Mexico City. I can imagine a trip like this back then was a big deal!
Terry Dip takes us to Niagara Falls, well, part of it at least.
Suntonu Bhadra shows us a beautiful spot by the lake in Ontario.
Pierre Matile tells of his early days of van life.
Pamela Oglesby brings us to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
Allison Bishins Consulting gives us a very in-depth guide to gluten-free eating in Mexico City.
Audrey Stimson introduces us to manatees near the Canaveral National Seashore. I have seen them in other parts of Florida and they are so docile and peaceful.

Michael DeFranceschi gives us tips for a weekend in Ohio.
Central and South America
Dave Drew brings us to Playa Flamingo in Costa Rica where they are searching for a more permanent vacation solution.
Pamela Oglesby takes us on her cruise through Cancun, Costa Rica, and Panama.
Julie van Maanen has an interesting night partying with Paraguayan border officers 20+ years ago!
Africa
Oscar Rhea is headed to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain! Read part three of his series.
And he brings us part four by discussing what songs he will listen to once he reaches the top.
Europe
Mark Ainscow’s post about testing positive for explosives made me laugh. I experienced a similar festival in Guatemala and I can attest to the chaos involved and the fireworks blasting in every direction while raining down on the crowds. Glad I didn’t have to fly shortly after my experience!
Kua Lina writes about the Azores. It looks and sounds beautiful with lots to do for a 3 week's vacation!
I (Jillian) have written another post about Istanbul. This time it is about how to do almost free stuff in the city and learn how the locals live. This is on the European side of Istanbul, so I’ve included it in Europe.
Tim Ward takes us hiking in Norway.
Keith Kelley writes about the beauty of Italy and the diversity that the country provides.
Italian Rhapsody
Italy has it all! Here’s where to go and when for your Italian rhapsody.
