Delightful Cruising In The Gulf

Our 8-Day Cruise
My husband and I were excited about this 8-day cruise. This was going to some countries we had never visited. Around lunchtime, we were boarding the Carnival cruise ship in Tampa, FL.
We had a beautiful room on one of the upper decks. When we set sail we headed to the very top deck to watch the view. That day and the next day were “at sea’ days, and the gulf was calm and gorgeous.
We had fun and ate way too much food. We gambled a bit and I was winning on the quarter slot machine. We also enjoyed the entertainment provided in the evenings. We met some delightful people too.
My sweet husband is a big fan of the Eagles, and there was a karaoke night, and he sang “Life in The Fast Lane” to me. Somehow the song seemed to fit our mood for this cruise.

We docked in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We chose the option of taking the bus to Cancun, a beautiful city with miles of white sand, and it was a beautiful day.
We ate the best fajitas I have ever eaten, while we watched people playing in the clear blue water.
Then, we walked with a few other people from the ship to some of the shops in the area. We went into one shop that reminded me of the old dime stores.
As we walked in the door we were each offered a shot of tequila.
Just what we needed!
Next Stop Limón, Costa Rica
We signed up for two sightseeing trips, and the first one had us soaring over the tropical rainforest. We didn’t use the zipline as I was chicken. We rode in a sky gondola, which rides along a cable suspended from 300-year-old huge trees.
It was gorgeous! I saw a toucan and a white-faced monkey peek out at us, and some other amazing birds too. The vegetation and waterfalls were breathtakingly beautiful. I was snapping pictures every few minutes.

Awesome Costa Rica
One thing I liked about Costa Rica was how clean and neat everything was, like the schoolyard and the orchards. We had taken a bus from the ship to the sky gondola, then we took a river cruise in a smaller boat.
Again, we were observing the beauty of nature. I saw a sloth hanging from a tree branch. I didn’t get a good picture. I wish we had more than one day in Costa Rica, as there was so much to see.

We were exhausted when we got back to the ship, so we were not up very late that night.
Next Day Colón, Panama
We could see a vast number of ships when we arrived in Panama as the cruise ship docked close to the entrance to the Panama Canal. We didn’t take another expensive outing arranged by the ship.
Instead, we got a taxi and went to see the Panama Canal, and the taxi driver was a great tour guide pelting us with a vast amount of information. It was an interesting morning.

The vast Colón Free Trade Zone offers tax-free shopping.
Then, we walked around the city for a while and bought some liquor at a bargain price, which the ship confiscated. You get it back when the cruise is ending. They want you to buy their high-priced fancy alcoholic beverages on board the ship.
A man had a pet monkey that jumped on my husband’s shoulder. It was so funny. The man was laughing while speaking in a rapid Spanish dialect.
Heading Home
Now, the next stop was Tampa. We still had another “at sea” day. We simply did more of the same, enjoying every moment. I could never forget all the fun we had on this amazing cruise.
