Which thoughts bring you a wave of relaxation?

Sunny Side Updates with The Brain is a Noodle || Week 34!

Photo by Sebastian Huber on Unsplash

💧 For me, the word moist is uncomfortable — is it just as odd and weird to you too? Maybe it’s a remnant of my earlier teen self giggling at anything to do with something vaguely erotic, remaining even though I don’t giggle at vaguely erotic things anymore. Maybe it’s that water genuinely disturbs my senses, described here:

once wet, all moist, uncomfortable, pruney, somehow, a single stray hair already made its way halfway down my throat, yet another, stuck like a leech on my back so much it feels like a bug, trying to crawl right up SITTING UNCOMFORTABLE

Whereas for other people, water is calming. Swimmers, scuba divers tell me about how calming it is to be immersed in water, feeling hugged by the water. See? How awkward that sentence was? I don’t even know how to describe the experience in words. 😅

yet others sit comfortably embracing the comforting envelope of water, swimmers, scuba divers, talking about the serenity of returning to something as comforting as their mother’s womb, surrounded by amniotic fluid LOVED AND SAFE

Which brings me to this week’s shortform question:

Shortform Theme of the Week

This week’s shortform theme is: Which thought brings you that wave of relaxation? (Because moist sure doesn’t evoke that sentiment in me, but perhaps the calmness of the sea, the waves, the currents brings you peace?)

Submit your shortform piece (<150 words) now to share your thoughts! (For prompt-based pieces, you may exceed the 150 word limit, but aim for 150 words if the idea of a longer piece overwhelms you!)

This is just a guideline for inspiration! You may submit shortforms related to other concepts if other ideas come to you! :)

🍜 Piping Hot New(dle) Pieces of the Week

Challenge: *highlight* the ones you bookmarked/ read and make sure everyone gets highlighted at least once! ❤

🧠🍜 [1] So You Want To Know More About Me — #1 May by Giulia ‘Singing. That’s how I learned English, actually. At my parent’s home, I stored dozens of notebooks full of song lyrics that I handwrote. I translated most of them to understand what my idols were saying.’

🧠🍜 [2] A Twisted Affair by Sherry McGuinn ‘Give me what I want, And give it to me now. You’ve given it to others. Don’t pretend you don’t know how.’

🧠🍜 [3] My Number Relationship? Tres Bien. by Will Hull ‘As I grow older, numbers mean less. Time passes.’

🧠🍜 [4] June Interview Questions with One of My Favorite Gals by Divina Grey ‘I love people. I want to hug you, kiss you, slowly sip on frothy dark-roasted coffee with you, and talk oodles about life, laughter, and love with you. But that part of life (socializing, being my charismatic self, etc.) is emotionally taxing and often overwhelms me too.’

🧠🍜 [5] Why We Should Cry For Humanity’s Sake? by Yan Huang ‘Cry, if you must, As tears roll down your cheeks, they also carry some pain away from your soul, but never the memories.’

🧠🍜 [6] July by Dave Logan ‘July, but why? It’s a month that makes me think of sweating my ass off’

🧠🍜 [8] Monday Musing by K.S. ‘The words that are usually my constant, insistent companions have been absent of late.’

🧠🍜 [9] The Numbers Game by Dave Logan ‘Numbers to me are a nuisance. Math and I never saw eye to eye back in grammar school and high school. The only time I enjoy numbers is when I see my bank account and those zeroes are plentiful (not that that happens often tho). We have a love/hate thing going on constantly.’

🧠🍜 [10] More Blood From A Turnip by Will Hull ‘Often ideas come when out and about in life — a clever play of words overheard in a supermarket, a ludicrous sign, or any number of other random moments. I have my phone with me so I’ll take a photo or make notes for later.’

🧠🍜 [15] (U)ntitled by Courtenay S. Gray ‘I roll over in my sleep, witching hour in full bloom. The glow of my dumpling night light makes shadows on the wall. I see you in your apartment, with a jazz record serenading your silence. ‘

🧠🍜 [19] Fond by Laurie Perez ‘When I was five, I heard a rumor you could get a wild bird to hang out with you if you sprinkled salt on its tail. This would override the bird’s impulse to take off and fly away when you reached out, in your innocence, wishing to connect, to hold the creature in your hand.’
