Summary

The website content describes the beginning of an adventure for an individual who has been confined to their apartment due to a pandemic and receives a mysterious envelope slid under their door.

Abstract

The narrative opens with a protagonist who has not left their apartment in a year due to a pandemic, likening the outside world to "lava." Despite the ability to have groceries and other necessities delivered, the protagonist has been sedentary, engaging in little physical activity. The routine is disrupted when an envelope is unexpectedly pushed under the door, bypassing the mailbox. The envelope, made of brown paper and sealed with a bee-stamped wax seal, bears the protagonist's name in calligraphy but lacks a return address. This event occurs while the protagonist is working on a mystery fiction chapter. The story presents the reader with options to either discard the envelope, save it for later, or open it immediately, and also invites readers to contribute to the unfolding story.

Opinions

  • The protagonist's avoidance of the outside world due to the pandemic is implied to be extreme, as they compare it to "lava" and have not exercised in a year.
  • The interruption caused by the envelope's arrival is seen as an annoyance initially, but it piques the protagonist's curiosity enough to consider it a break from writing.
  • The envelope's unique and careful presentation (brown paper, wax seal, calligraphy) suggests it is significant and personal, contrasting with the protagonist's mundane daily life.
  • The story engages the reader by offering interactive choices, which could influence the narrative's direction and the protagonist's actions.
  • The invitation for reader contributions indicates a collaborative and ongoing storytelling approach, encouraging community participation in the adventure's progression.

It has been 12 months since you’ve left your apartment. There’s a raging pandemic going on outside, and you consider the “outside” as “lava”.

Fortunately, you’re able to get groceries and almost anything else under the stars delivered to your door. The experts are saying that you should be taking walks outside, but truthfully, other than the odd jar-opening, you haven’t done any exercise since then.

That is, until today.

You were just minding your own business, working away at a middle chapter of your new mystery fiction when something slid under your door.

They didn’t even knock.

Something just slid under your door, getting caught in the ugly mess of your shoe pile.

“Why didn’t they just place it in the mailbox?”

Frustrated that your writing flow had been interrupted, you decide that at least this could count as a break. You pick the envelope up.

It’s not a flyer.

Instead, other than the odd dirt it collected as it was rudely jammed through the door to be met with your stack of shoes, it was kind of pretty.

In brown paper, with a wax melt stamped with a bee on it. In beautiful calligraphy letters, it said your name. No return address. Odd.

Options:

👉 Chuck the envelope straight into the recycling bin without reading it. 👉 File the envelope to read after you finish writing this chapter of your mystery book. 👉 Open the envelope right now.
