#OngoingAdventure: How To Submit
Thank you so much for hopping on by and being interested in joining my odd (but fun???) side project! As a kid, I was an avid reader of Goosebumps Choose Your Own Adventures series, and have always thought about how weird and exciting it might be to write one of my own.
There’s no better time than to start now, right?
How This Ongoing Adventure Story works
Different writers are able to contribute chapters to this “Ongoing Adventure” project. Each new chapter will have a series of potential options that the reader can choose from, leading them down entirely different paths.
How to Join TBIN as a writer
To join as a writer in The Brain is a Noodle, check out this link! The google form to sign up as a writer is right in there. By joining, you’d be able to submit #OngoingAdventure pieces, as well as poetry and shortform pieces:
Rules for #OngoingAdventure pieces
- Title. Your piece must have a brief title (think of it like a chapter title). Please have the hashtag #OngoingAdventure appear before it. (E.g., #OngoingAdventure: The Eggs Go On Strike Again)
- Subtitle: As your subtitle, please indicate which story option from the previous chapter has been chosen.
- Photo. Please include a stock photo at the beginning and clearly . If you choose to include your own illustration or photo, please indicate in the captions.
- Beginning Formatting. Before you begin your chapter, please include a link to a) the previous chapter, b) the first chapter and c) link to invite others to submit a chapter.
Sample format:
Previous Chapter || Start From The Beginning || Submit Your Chapter Here
- Story. Your piece can follow any genre but follow logically from the previous chapter, especially relating to any choices/ options that readers select in order to read your piece.
- POV. Since this is a “choose your own adventure” series, it should be written in second person pov. E.g., the main character is the reader.
- Ending Formatting: Include between 2–5 potential actions that readers can take (and that writers can use as starting points for the next chapter!). As people submit downstream chapters, I’ll be hyperlinking these options. Others may also decide to add on to the list of options available.
Sample format:
You walk up to the receptionist’s desk but no one is there. You decide to:
👉 Sit and wait for five minutes. 👉 Walk further into the office and explore to see if anyone else could help you out. 👉 Ring the bell on the desk to see if anyone answers. 👉 Look up the office’s phone number and call to see if you’d gotten the wrong date
- Story Tags: Please include Ongoing Adventure (with spaces) as part of your tags! Fiction would also be a good tag to place your pieces under.
- (Optional) You may also decide to tag friends and community to join in on the fun! This is entirely optional though.
- Please follow all other Medium guidelines and rules.
Please note that by submitting, you’re agreeing to allow editors of TBIN to add potential new options to the downstream options of your piece. This would include: allowing us to update any new links in your piece for people who have submitted pieces that link from your chapter.
What are you waiting for? What’s your next big adventure?
