Owen Jones’ Coronavirus Brain Fart
The Coronavirus has become a political fault-line between Leavers and Remainers….
Here is yesterday’s UK figures 40,279 tested, 1,372 positive. And here is today’s UK figures, 44, 105 tested, 1, 543 positive. The current number of people who have died is 55.
Keep those numbers in mind…
Because Buzzfeed (yeah… but play along… some people actually believe this shite), has a ‘story’ that apparently the government have been forced into a major U-turn.
To save you the effort of making yourself more stoopid by reading the article, the gist of it is that Imperial College have produced a graph… and here is the graph… which models various options. One of which is ‘household quarantine’… i.e. if one person in a household becomes a zombie, then everyone in that house should lock themselves in for 14 days.
That is the U-turn… the bombshell… the scandal….
“ If this story is true, it represents the biggest scandal in Britain for generations.”
… cries Owen Jones…. (predictably)…
Speaking of the toy-town Trotsky, Mr Jones has been putting his considerable brain-power to the matter and has come up with a 5 point plan for defeating the virus….
You can tell his plan is nonsense, as it is doesn’t demand that all dwellings be provided with a enough rooms for everyone to be in a separate room… which speaks volumes about the 1% Mr Jones and the lala-land he lives in…
The previous recommendation was for people who developed symptoms — a new, and persistent cough and high temperature — to self isolate for 7 days; one wonders why Mr Jones thinks this ‘U-turn’ is such a ‘bombshell’. Because we already know the disease can be infectious past 14 days, so what does it matter if it is 7 days or 14? Beyond increasing the chances of everyone in the household becoming infected…. particularly in households, that do not have enough rooms for each person to self-isolate (something that particularly will effect the poor… whom Mr Jones pretends to care about).
And just to ram home the point, if you are a couple with kids, living in a two bedroom flat, and one of you gets ill. You may well be able to self-isolate, and with care not infect anyone else. If you are all forced to quarantine… you have no chance. But thanks media for forcing a ‘U-turn’… great job…. you must be so proud…
Yet when you consider the position of Britain, to the rest of Europe, it is difficult (given the numerous faux pas) to see how the handling of the coronavirus affair is a scandal. Indeed, if anything people appear to have heeded the advice, made arrangements and in the words of Boris Johnson, Britain is a “mature and grown up democracy” & people “understand the advice that is being given to them”…. except for the media who appear increasingly intentionally thick…
For how much longer… remains to be seen…
Now to those screaming for the government to weld everyone in their homes, impose heavy fines on zombies caught breaking internal-exile, and generally have blokes in yellow tabards pushing people about, the key line on that graph, from Imperial College, is the effect closing schools and colleges would have.
According to the graph, and the media experts, such a move would have a dramatic effect.
Now you, dear reader, will know that the results of the large scale testing program in South Korea would suggest otherwise. And yet more real data has come in from Colorado, in which 1,216 people were tested, 160 were found to be zombies, and the age range of the infected is mainly between 30–60.
The spin for not closing schools is to protect grandparents, who would be called upon to provide the childcare in “hard working families” (the infamous New Labour euphemism for globalised consumer units), yet children and the elderly, in the Colorado and the South Korean study, are the least likely to be infected.
But because of the bogus WHO statistics, cooked up for them by the Chinese, and it being fashionable to shut schools, the demand is ‘SHUT THE SCHOOLS’…. to save the kiddies from #boristhebutcher…. which logically… taking the spin from both sides into account, would suggest the ideal position would be to keep the schools open and have grandparents teaching…. or vice-versa for computing classes.
Now despite appearances Owen Jones is not a total moron, and the part of his brain not completely compartmentalised, by the back-scratching office politics of the Vőlkischer Beobachter… erm… sorry…. the Guardian…. well, he smells a rat…
No Owen it can’t… leave aside the issue of the Chinese contractors on the Qom-Tehran railway…. the problem you have is, if you accept the truth that the group most likely to be infected, are also the group least likely to be tested (in part because if they have the disease, they mainly get over it without severe complications) (if you ignore the large numbers in the age group who died in China) (and what passive-progressive activist doesn’t ignore them?)… i.e. people aged between 20 and 40… then you have to accept the logic of Mr Whitty’s and Mr Vallance’s plan (keeping as it does half an eye on the Spanish Flu pandemic)… and no toy-town anti-fascist could possibly do that…. no matter how many lives it might save in the long-term.
