Summary

The article discusses the unique response of the French Consulate in Wuhan to the coronavirus outbreak, their decision to remain operational, and the implications of this choice amidst global concern and conflicting information about the virus.

Abstract

Amid the global concern over the coronavirus outbreak, particularly in Wuhan, the French Consulate has made the decision to stay open, contrary to other foreign diplomatic missions. This move has raised questions about the activities and motivations of the French staff who volunteered to remain, especially given the close ties between Wuhan and France and the presence of a Sino-French laboratory studying dangerous pathogens. The article also touches on the broader implications of the outbreak, including the Chinese government's quarantine measures, the World Health Organization's (WHO) stance on misinformation, and the varying severity of the virus's impact as perceived by different entities.

Opinions

  • The author suggests a sense of curiosity and concern regarding the French Consulate's decision to stay operational in Wuhan during the outbreak.
  • There is an implication that the French Consulate's actions may be particularly significant due to the Sino-French cooperation on infectious diseases and the presence of a high-security laboratory in Wuhan.
  • The article expresses skepticism about the official information provided by Chinese authorities and the WHO, hinting at potential underreporting or misrepresentation of the virus's impact.
  • There is a critical view of the WHO's demand for tech companies to censor what is deemed misinformation, especially when such information is later acknowledged as accurate.
  • The author points out a perceived discrepancy in the global response to the virus, with some sources downplaying its severity while others take extreme precautions.
  • The article questions the WHO's effectiveness and transparency in managing the flow of information regarding the coronavirus outbreak.

Coronavirus Conundrum

Amid the storm of stories about Coronavirus and Wuhan something keeps niggling away at the back of my mind. What are the French doing?

In particular what is the French Consulate in Wuhan doing.

A Fence Works Two Ways

While most other diplomats in Wuhan have left the city following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Olivier Guyonvarch, consul general for France in Wuhan, decided to stay with his colleagues. His consulate is the only one in the city that remains open.”

I see

Usually about 40 people work in the French consulate, opened in 1998. Now, four consulate staff volunteered to continue to work keeping in touch with French people living in Wuhan and taking care of relations between France and Hubei province.”

That’s rather specific

Wuhan is the Central China city with the closest ties with France, and normally more than 500 French people live in the city. Following the lockdown, the consulate helped organize three flights that took more than 200 French people and their family members to France, he said.”

Which leaves 300 French people…. doing what?

The lab is part of Sino-French cooperation in the prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases, according to the news release. The central government approved the P4 laboratory in 2003 when the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome spread alarm across the country. In October 2004, China signed a cooperation agreement with France on the prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases. This was followed by a succession of supplementary agreements. With French assistance in laboratory design, biosafety standards establishment and personnel training, construction began in 2011 and lasted for three years. In 2015, the lab was put into trial operation.”

And suppose… just suppose… there are two outbreaks of… ermflu…. the one that has freaked out the Chinese into placing half the country into quarantine, (and WHO demanding tech companies censor ‘misinformation’ (the same ‘misinformation’ that generally turns out to be admitted by WHO three days later, when journalists (the laziest and least curious people in the world) get around to doing their job of asking simple questions): and the mild form that has Dimension B and the Vaxxer Industrial Complex saying ‘it’s only flu’….

Just saying

Oh btw, being intelligent and informed, and having been following along with moi, you dear reader will find this gobbit of information most interesting… for the slow amongst you… a report came out from Shanghai (it’ll be in one of the articles below) that indicated Coronavirus has an infection range of 26km…. so

The infected worker works at a hospital in Sagamigahara, a Tokyo suburb. It is approximately 40km from the city center. It is 24 km away from Yokohama, where the Diamond Princess is docked

Oh yeah… and information WHO probably wants suppressed as ‘misinformation’… is this oddity….

Amazing that a boat in #Japan now has more official #coronavirus cases than any city in #China outside of #Hubei Province. So 542 cases on board the Diamond Princess is more than #Guangzhou, #Shenzhen, #Beijing, #Shanghai, #Wenzhou etc etc (Yes I know official figures are flawed)

Care to comment WHO?

Oh yeah, I forgot

It’s only flu
