Coronavirus Reaches 39% Fatality Rate (Again)… ‘Fake News,’ Say Trump Supporters

Whoever is advising Donald J Tump on the Coronavirus, is either setting him up or daft.

Yes.. yes…there are those that say he is only saying stuff like ‘it’s just flu’ and the ‘average age of those who die is over 80’, in order to settle the markets. But as with most things concerning the coronavirus, until the disease has either passed through the herd, or blown itself out, there is little point in trying to manage expectations. And, like every politician who has tried what Mr Trump is attempting to do: it has blown up in their face.

Speaking of explosions, there were a number of mysterious fires in China over night, one in Shanghai, and one in Zhuzhou…. an ‘insurance job’ no doubt…

Now you might love me in this bra, but not being estrogenically insane, Mumsnet is strictly off-limits for an humble satyr. However the missus has been a-spying, and reporting back with details gleaned from someone who claims to be the wife of an Italian doctor.

Oh! you cry…. how dare you believe what is written on the internet!

Yes… well that aside… this ‘doctor’s wife’ has been posting various bits of (probably Russian) misinformation about what has been going on in Italy. And, for a troll (living in his mother’s Moscow basement) ze has been surprising prescient….

For today came confirmation of what the troll had been saying, in the form of new triage rules… which in effect will mean the over 80’s will no longer be treated (according to the troll) (because they don’t have the beds, the staff, or the where-with-all).

This news will obviously cause Dan Bongino to pop a bicep, (and a whole host of American right-wing talk-show hosts, will rail against ‘death panels’), as it is clearly a move by the Italians to undermine Trump…. and his bogus claim that the average age of those dying of the.. erm… flu… is 80.

(Incidentally, the medicare-for-all folks who are putting it about that Chinese medical care is free… they might want to check on the charges for staying in that leaky quarantine hospital… oh and how much you have to pay the bloke who welds you in your home… just saying)

But back to Italy…

Next came a helpful list showing the progression from 3 cases on 18th Feb, to 9,172 today…. *cough* don’t mention the Chinese and the tyre factory *cough*… it’s alright it’s just a cough….

Then the Italian government decided enough was enough, and placed the whole country on lock down.

So back to the Musmnet troll, who earlier in the day had posted this information….

Ok, the numbers are a little out, as the latest figure for the dead is 463…. but the fatality ratio remains about the same, 463 to 724: at 39% of closed cases.

To put this into perspective, in China (on closed cases) at roughly the same stage of the outbreak in Hubei (ignoring the leaked Taiwan figures), fatality rates of between 40%–60% were commonly seen: if you believe snap-shots of official documents smuggled out, before the internet was partially shut down, and then fully censored.

Another interesting comparison is the three week figure.

In Italy it is exactly three weeks since Feb 18th. If we assume the outbreak in Wuhan started in late Dec, it is roughly three weeks (23rd Jan) to when the lock down occurred. Given that the complications occur generally in the second week of infection, it would seem logical to assume that the bed crisis in hospitals will occur in the third week…

Elsewhere individual doctors are reporting that they are dealing with 15–20 new cases per day. And that specialists are being pulled away from other departments, (i.e. dealing with non-zombie patients)…. oh, and around 10% of medical staff are infected, or suspected and in quarantine (in addition to them all being exhausted)…. hence the crisis….

But given that this ‘is just flu’… ‘I’m not a doctor’… it’s scaring you… and is all being done to hurt Trump (not that it helps Hillary in her election campaign much either)… it is all fake news…

And of course, having called for a lock down, what are the Italians doing?

Queuing up for toilet-rolls of course.

If you go back to that fatality rate chart (of closed cases)… there is this anomaly that France has managed to cure 12 cases, and 30 have died.

Last week France banned meetings of over 5,000 people, and today they passed 1,000 reported cases.

So, what do you think the French people have been doing?

If you guessed setting the world record for the biggest gathering of Smurfs… you would be correct.
