Purpose of the Story

In this story, I share an interview that I conducted with Angel Joy. Angel is a new writer on ILLUMINATION and I have started reading her interesting stories.

Angel has a medical background but she writes about eclectic topics including spirituality which inspire us. Angel has gained good recognition from our readers and writers in such a short time as she is engaging with our writers and supporting their content.

Angel regularly joins our Slack channel and interacts with our writers.

Let’s explore the background of this fresh and interesting writer of ILLUMINATION!

Tell us a bit about your background, Angel.

I was raised in Kerala, India, and earned a degree from ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCE. Now, I’m a health care professional, basically a nurse.

Why do you write on Medium?

Medium is a great platform both to write as well as to read stories that we actually want through a simple click. It’s actually helpful for the writers like me, who is having a definitive purpose.

The other important function is its diversity in content. Each publication provides a platform to write and read different contents according to personal taste.

What are your values as a writer?

I have three main values:

Be optimistic: As a writer, I wanna be optimistic in life and I want to plant its seeds in minds of readers who are eager to read my story. I need to help my daily readers to create an optimistic mind, that’s my overall motive.

Be simple: I want to convey my thoughts in a simple way, it helps most of them to grasp the content easily.

Be a change: If I can change a 0.1% of lives through my writing, it’s a gain. I want to change bad habits, behavior, forlorn hopes, and abortive attempts.

What are the top three books affected your life?

Here are my top three books:

Managing Oneself by Peter Drucker

The best self-help piece that is ever written. The main focus is to cultivate a deep understanding of yourself by identifying your most valuable strengths and most dangerous weaknesses.

How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie

An all-time classic when it comes to personal development. This book is an essential read for everyone — particularly for people getting out of college. He writes about how you can increase your popularity, persuade people, make friends, enable you to win new clients and customers, become a better speaker and boost enthusiasm among your colleagues

Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers

Fear is something that holds us back on a daily basis. And Susan Jeffer’s book gives you practical tips on how you can manage fear.

What are your hobbies?

I mainly enjoy listening to music, reading, and writing.

How do you connect with your readers?

I think it’s through my words, for that i chose medium to express my thoughts and ideas. Basically I’m blogger and I used to connect with people through my blogs also.

Why did you join ILLUMINATION and how do you find it so far?

I received an invitation to join in this publication and so far it’s amazing and I am really enjoying being a part of this community especially on Slack.

Impressive milestone of ILLUMINATION, I read on your bulletins that the publication gained 14,000 plus readers within a few months and has a huge number of talented writers, you mention 1600+. Serendipity and diversity make journey incredible on ILLUMINATION. I am pleased to be part of this success story.

Who are the top ten writers you follow on ILLUMINATION?

There are so many; more than ten, it’s hard to limit to 10.

So let me give you few names: Selma, Elisabeth Khan, Kathryn A. LeRoy, Ph.D., George J. Ziogas, Michele Thill, Rasheed Hooda, Henery X (long), Eliot Kersgaard, and would add you Dr Mehmet Yildiz.

What are your top five stories that you want to share with your audience, and why?

The heading tells about it all, there is no need of any explanation, I guess. It relates to our lives.

It remind to close your ears and eyes to hear and see what other’s think of you.

This is medicine to heal the wounded minds.

This story explains about the necessity of leaving comfort Zones which we built for ourselves.

This story helps you assess that you’re a procrastinator or not

What are the success factors for you as a writer on Medium?

It’s about reader’s response and claps, obviously it helps me to move on. We got a direct exposure to see that our stories are benefiting to the public or not. It’s incredibly amazing.

What do you recommend to the new writers on ILLUMINATION?

This is a mandatory question.

My first advice and last advice for newbies is to read. You can improve your writing skill only through reading regularly. Reading will help you to improve writing skill+ knowledge level, and can pave milestones in this field.

What are your future plans as a writer?

I would like to improve in every aspect as a writer and help many people out there through my stories. That’s all I can say today.
