Interview with Henery X (long)

Purpose of the Story

In this story, I share an interview that I conducted with Henery X (long). I met Henery on a serendipitous encounter before ILLUMINATION was established and followed his motivational and inspiring stories.

Henery impressed me with his courtesy of replying to every comment I left on his great stories. One of the notable attributes of Henery is engaging with other writers and providing uplifting feedback.

Let’s explore Henery’s background from this interview!

Tell us a bit about your background, Henery.

I am 55-years young. I have a 32-year-old. I was born, raised, and still reside in Detroit, Michigan. I’m a freelance writer. My love of reading led to my love of writing. I’ve self-published two books and as of this interview, my third will be in my hands early next month, be it the will of the Universe.

Why do you write on Medium?

My wife told me about Medium five months ago, and because she knows how much I love to read, write, and mingle. I write to help awaken or accelerate the greatness within the reader, this is my overall reason for writing. I understand the power of the right combination of words, so, I take full advantage of this fact. I feel that as a writer I owe the reader something worthy of the time they donate to reading my words, and what’s more worthwhile than helping someone realize how great they are?

What are your values as a writer?

Creating inspiring content is priority number one for me. Quality content will not only attract attention but more importantly, make sure that it stays attentive as well.

What are the top three books affected your life?

The Autobiography of Malcolm X, by Alex Haley, Breaking the Chains of Psychological Slavery, by Dr. Na’im Akbar, and King Con, by Stephen J. Cannell. The first one started my obsession with reading, the second one started me on the path of self-discovery, and the third was one of several books that inspired me to want to become a writer.

What are your hobbies?

Reading, writing, learning, creating, and building meaningful relationships with interesting people.

How do you connect with your readers?

I write to the emotions all we humans have, in other words, my pieces come straight from the heart, so it’s hard for them not to be heartfelt. I genuinely want us all to succeed, and I allow my words to reflect this fact.

Why did you join ILLUMINATION, and how do you find it so far?

I joined ILLUMINATION because after you made mentioned the idea of it to me, I mentally saw the potential. Since I’ve been a part of illumination it has exceeded my greatest expectations, it’s literally my literary heaven on Earth.

Who are the top ten writers you follow on ILLUMINATION?

Yourself, of course, Dr Mehmet Yildiz. Then there’s Amy Marley, Michele Thill, Desiree Driesenaar, Karen Madej 💛, Terry Mansfield, Selma, Annelise Lords,

What are your top five stories that you want to share with your audience and why?

“It Can Most Definitely Happen.” Because it shows that living your dreams is above and beyond possible. “Nothing In Life Is Free.” Because it speaks about coincidences for actions. “I Told You So.” Because it gives a different perspective on Monday. “Inspiration.” Because it’s an inspiring piece. And lastly, “Wake Up.” Because it’s a piece that’s relevant to the time we’re living in right now. All five pieces can be found on my home page.

What are the success factors for you as a writer on Medium?

I believe that my success on Medium is a direct result of my recognition of other writers, and my content. Above all else I’m a reader first and foremost, it was my love of reading that led to my love of writing. I dedicate time to not only reading, but to also dropping compelling comments and offering claps as well. It’s the comments that draw fellow writers to my page. More often than not after someone has read my comment pertaining to their effort, the end result is them walking beside me on my journey, I don’t like the term “following.”

What do you recommend to the new writers on ILLUMINATION?

My advice to new writers coming to ILLUMINATION would be the same advice I’d give to a seasoned writer, read and comment as well. If we want to be recognized, we have to be willing to offer recognition. The attention we seek is sought after by others as well, there must be a balance in all that we do or they’ll be an imbalance.

What are your future plans as a writer?

I have seven more books to pull up out of my mind, so I going to begin doing that very soon. I want to mentor young writers, help them to find, and trust, their style. I want to continue to inspire others via my words. And I want to help make ILLUMINATION the best publication on the Medium platform.
