Purpose of the Story

In this story, I want to share with you an interview that I conducted with our top writer Julia E Hubbel. Julia has been submitting her fascinating articles from the first day of ILLUMINATION.

Frankly, I got addicted to her engaging and informative content. It has been an honor for me to obtain Julia’s support for our publication. Each writer on ILLUMINATION is unique and brings different capabilities.

Julia is extra unique with her colorful and humorous language and directness. She writes about health, mental health, nutrition, and fitness.

Let’s explore her interesting perspectives on life and writing!

Tell us a bit about your background, Julia.

I was born yesterday.

Give me a little time.

Why do you write on Medium?

  1. I am a lousy bartender ( I don’t drink)
  2. Nobody would hire me anyway
  3. The Longshoreman’s Union states that I don’t curse well enough. Well, fuck it.

What are your values as a writer?

I dew mai bestest not two mayke two miny mustaykes

What top three books affected your life?

Fun With Dick and Jane

Dick and Jane Go Go Go

Dick and Jane Away We Go

What are your hobbies?

Bending toenail clippings

Collecting fart jokes

Combing the lint in my navel

How do you connect with your readers?

Readers? I have readers?

Why did you join ILLUMINATION and how do you find it so far?

There was this guy from Australia who invited me. I think I paid him a great deal of money to do so, money I wish I had right now, otherwise I wouldn’t be stuck in a hostel in Eugene waiting for my house to sell.

As for finding Illumination, I’ve been seeking it all my life and haven’t found it yet. But since I was only born yesterday (see first question) I’ve got time. At least until I drink this gallon of bleach to protect me from Covid 19.

Who are the top ten writers you follow on ILLUMINATION?

There are other writers besides me on Illumination?

What are your top five stories that you want to share with your audience and why?

Drink Cow Urine and Take Twenty Years Off Your Face.

Please note: chasing the cow to pee into your cup will add years to your cardiovascular health.

What are the success factors for you as a writer on Medium?

Taking Everything VERY Seriously. No. Really. Especially thoughtful questionnaires like this one.

What do you recommend to the new writers on ILLUMINATION?

Write your opinion and claim it as fact

Never read anyone else’s work; after all yours is all there is worth reading

Blame everyone and anyone for your life problems (after all it is their fault)

Never ever give your photos credit or captions (here’s to you, Timothy Key)

Never ever spell check, use Grammarly, or bother to edit your work. Nobody else does.

Never ever cooperate, collaborate, compliment or for heaven’s sake, give proper credit for material you lifted from someone else (another tip to Tim)

What are your plans as a writer?

To be as lazy as possible, plagiarize as much as I can without getting sued, take as much credit for ideas that are not my own as I can get away with, and brag about getting published while most of my work is puerile pap.

I take no responsibility for the veracity of my answers. After all, why would anyone want to pay attention to a 67 year-old broad hanging out in a hostel in Western Eugene, down the street from a brewery that reeks of hops, and two blocks from an outpost of homeless tenters panhandling food for their pitties? How could anyone make that shit up? This paragraph is in fact the only truth in this whole interview.

By the way, there are FAR too many Illumination writers to thank, not only for their excellent work, feedback, mentions, tags, links and everything else, but if I tried to list them all here I’d never be finished. My heartfelt tip of the hat to Dr Mehmet Yildiz, and to my fellow writers. ALL of you rock.
