Bird’s eye view — me, or you?
This mural makes me stop and appreciate it whenever I visit the neighbourhood. The bonus is that there’s a great ramen place on the other side of this wall.
“Graffiti & Street Art” Challenge Conclusion
BIG thanks to Ellie Jacobson and Sandi Parsons for co-editing with me this month as guest editors for the Graffiti & Street Art challenge. It’s been awesome having their help editing and responding to submissions! Special shout out to Ellie for her “Candy Store” article, and to Sandi for her “Pinball” story this month.
Thank you to all the contributing writers this month for showing us the beautiful, colorful, eye-popping artwork that you’ve encountered in your lives.
April was a popular month for “Graffiti & Street Art.” We saw the artwork on building walls, underneath bridges, parking lots, alleyways, sidewalks, trees, doors, and more.
Update May 7, 2022!
I wanted to give a special shout-out to Penny Grubb for her perspective and detailed article about graffiti and street art which highlights several of the stories published in our April’s Graffiti & Street Art Challenge. Check it out! Thank you, Penny!
Editor Picks by Mary & Ellie & Sandi on April Stories
April was a tough month to select stories as the submissions we received were outstanding and came from different parts of the world either through the participants’ hometowns or during their travels.
Ellie, Sandi, and I enjoyed reviewing all the photo stories. For April’s highlights, each of us selected 7 different stories for the “Graffiti & Street Art” challenge and 1 story each for “Freestyle” for a total of 24 stories for our Editors Picks!
Here are 24 stories that stood out in either “Graffiti & Street Art” or “Freestyle” or wowed for different reasons —(in no particular order) out of over 175 submissions to my publication this April. The photo stories were either unusual or vibrant in some way, stopped us and made us take more time than usual to appreciate the details in the artwork, had a unique take on the challenge, cool backstories, or made us laugh, ponder or get emotional.
