Six Word Photo Story
Geometric Cool
April Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Graffiti & Street Art”
Hey bro, I am geometric cool.
The mural “New Wave” in F5,12, in the city of Mannheim in Badem Wurtemberg, Germany is by two brothers. The artists Christoph and Florian Schmidt are artists from Berlin.
The 4 stories high mural stopped me dead in my tracks. I studied the mural and thought something is wrong. After a while, I figured it out.
What caught my eye is the mix of two and three-dimensional geometric patterns in the painting (see the source for more photos of the mural being painted). It confused my brain as a message was sent to my eyes, “something is wrong with you. Come on, focus again!”
I thought this was a very cool painting therefore my six word photo story is, “Hey bro, I am geometric cool.” Very cool, indeed!
Update 07:44 CET: I found an article by two bloggers on their Montana Cans Blog. They interviewed the artists about their mural and its meaning.
Mannheim’s aerial street plan is called “quadrate” (squares). It looks like rectangles from above. The light pink rectangles symbolize that.
The 3D wolf represents the younger generation’s need to constantly renew and refresh older ideas. It reflects their behavior to hide their eyes and personality. Eyes hidden with reflecting shades and personalities coated with a surface that represents stone.
