What Makes You Soggy And How Do You De-Moisten?
Sunny Side Updates Week 53 AND 54

For those who missed this regular weekly update and was wondering where I went for week 53 of TBIN, my apartment flooded!
A lot of things went right amidst a disaster and I’m just glad to be back. I’m still a little bit spooked, but mostly at the point of recovering from this by making jokes. For one, the word moist just evokes a universal creepy crawly pruney fingers feeling in everyone that I like to unnecessarily use it in all contexts.
A few days ago, KSHernandez DMed a reply to my Instagram stories and we chatted about just how weird this word is. I can’t remember what happened in-between, but I said “omg”, to which my brain (soggy and pruney) immediately read the acronym as
oh moistened God
So, this past week, a flood quite literally and emotionally made me soggy, and I am simply de-moistening by cracking jokes. You?
Until next week,

🍜 Piping Hot New(dle) Pieces of the Week
Challenge: *highlight* the ones you bookmarked/ read and make sure everyone gets highlighted at least once! ❤
🧠🍜 [1] On Seeking Connections by Ravyne Hawke ‘I don’t connect well with people. I never have and probably never will. I learned early on in my life that I am different and a bit too quirky for most people and because of that, I maintain my distance — even with family.’
🧠🍜 [2] Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice by Ashlea Morgan ‘Neither. It is neither tiring nor invigorating. It neither drains nor excites me. It’s ordinary and expected. Writing for me is reliable and trusted. It’s good for me — like taking walks or staying hydrated. ‘
🧠🍜 [3] Not Sharing by Penelope Mayfield ‘Join me in reading this SCRUMPTIOUS tiny piece!♥’
🧠🍜 [4] A Tattoo Artist Named Pome by Dominick Bernard Francois ‘A Tattoo Artist Named Pome Poetry in Motion Flown, cross the skin These hieroglyphics attached to our spirit’
🧠🍜 [5] Closing the Distance by Amy Lee Kite ‘as we lay here together, battling thoughts we cannot repress attempting to inhale, smell, savor this moment’
🧠🍜 [6] Why I Hate Asking for Directions in Bali by Sh*t Happens - Lost Girl Travel ‘On the way to Ubud, our moped went through a ton of four-way junctions. Did a single one have a road sign? Of course not.’
🧠🍜 [7] Curved Line by Mihai Brinas ‘The split road makes me feel uncomfortable an unyielding wonder is this choice’
🧠🍜 [8] The Leather Belts by CARMEN F MICSA ‘The texture and feel of jealousy — rougher thin’
🧠🍜 [9] Washing the Windshield by Dennett ‘Why is it that many of my prompt responses are anti the prompt? Not in a negative, nasty way. But, in a nope-that-doesn’t-work-for-me way or a yeah-not-anymore way.’
🧠🍜 [10] The Passionate Red Chilli Padi by Yan Huang ‘Passion, you smell pungent as you fill the entire room.’
🧠🍜 [11] Thoughts On Squash by Ravyne Hawke ‘I grew up with the belief that squash was something vile.’
🧠🍜 [12] Negative Nannies by Ravyne Hawke ‘Your voices echo eternally in a mind such as mine ripples of can’ts, won’ts and you’ll-nevers spread’
🧠🍜 [13] Tubies by Dennett ‘My part one Connections response was about how I’m connecting with myself these days more than with other people. And, that’s true. Except for my famous friends.’
🧠🍜 [14] Poem: Turning 30 by Sruthi Korlakunta ‘I smiled and cried, laughed and hurt, as if it all meant something. I cared and bothered, loved and hated like everything was up to me.’
🧠🍜 [15] A Father’s Care by Nicole Sponsel ‘Wiping a freshly fallen tear, Kissing a scraped knee, Lending a supportive ear.’
🧠🍜 [16] A Little Big Feud Back in The Day by Sharing Randomly ‘Remember those days Where everything was important But useless to you now’
🧠🍜 [17] Hand Me That Microphone, Lucy! by Barb Dalton ‘What to do when you want to write and are avoiding the research required to produce a decent story? Answer some pub questions!’
🧠🍜 [18] A Jammed Up Fib and Furphy by Will Hull ‘Clap Not Just once Finger tap’
🧠🍜 [19] Building A Bookshelf by Dominick Bernard Francois ‘Building a bookshelf With narratives of a river Through passages flicking ember Kindling from page to page’
🧠🍜 [20] Nola Gardens by Dominick Bernard Francois ‘Prayed that the pain helps me grow up faster than any birthday could Then Dolo called me and said you’ve passed Wish I could bring you back so bad That I started growing plants Remember when you used to be into that’
🧠🍜 [21] Is It Worth Reading? by Jennifer Dunne ‘If I am commenting on a comment to my work, my goal is simply to convey “you have been heard” to the reader who took the time to comment. If there’s something that sparks a discussion, cool, but it’s not necessary. They took the time to comment on my writing, I should take the time to comment on theirs.’
🧠🍜 [22] Finding the Dust in All That Clutter by Karen Schwartz ‘What can I say? I love Lucy Dan’s prompts. She’s a gifted writer and has often ignited a spark in me that inspired a story or a poem. For example, when she spoke about the gazillion mugs she owns, it reminded me of my collection. ‘
🧠🍜 [23] O, Those Memories by Anastasia S. Manyonga ‘I find in my eye a tear that sticks to it like glitter to the hair;’
🧠🍜 [24] The Masai Mara by Sai Kiran Ramarapu ‘When I close my eyes I can see it.’
🧠🍜 [25] How We Treat the Homeless Is a Reliable Test of Our Inner Humanity by Caroline de Braganza ‘Did you read the sign No job No food Please help’
🧠🍜 [26] Everyone Should Be Smacked in the Face, or Rear-end, by Reality by Lisa Gerard Braun ‘Yep, I was just sitting there when I felt the smack. I threw on the hazards and assessed the scratch.’
🧠🍜 [27] Now — I’m Free! by AK (Aaska Aejaz) ‘I have learned to walk on the ashes Whose attitude used to fly with the winds, Now become the dust on the ground My tears tell the story of my life’
🧠🍜 [28] How A Workaholic Meditates by Dominick Bernard Francois ‘Tapping into my inner Siddhartha Watching the busyness darting around my mind While impatience intercepts my thoughts With weak attempts to distract, deter, and tempt Even my so-called burdens don’t stand a chance’
🧠🍜 [29] How many more times will I fail? by Thalia Dunn ‘Fail to learn or learn from failing; failure is simply part of life, a fertile landscape for growth if I believe that beauty can be created from brokenness,’
🧠🍜 [30] About Dance by Mihai Brinas ‘To my shame I did not understand dance to my disappointment’
🧠🍜 [31] Life Ain’t A Fairytale by Roselyn Violet ‘A wise woman saw me crying near the golden lake, She told me my scars don’t make me less of a star. The way you want it to be, life ain’t a fairytale, She gave me pearls I’ll forever keep in my heart.’
🧠🍜 [32] Canis Lupus Limericks by Margie Willis ‘There once was a dull Canis Lupus took every other wolf to be a doofus fake member of the pack not assisting any attack so the mob gangs up on the bogus.’
🧠🍜 [33] Everything in Life Happens for a Reason by Warren Brown ‘Everything in Life Happens for a Reason. In the magic that we experience every day,’
🧠🍜 [34] Pandemically Yours by KSHernandez ‘I’ll happily stay inside — but guilt hitched a ride — essential my ass’
