Queerly Trans: Because trans does not equal straight!

In this Update (click on links):

Editor’s overview

THANK YOU FOR 50 FOLLOWERS!

Hey writers and readers. Welcome to another edition of The Quintessentials. Yep, we made it to 50 followers. It doesn’t sound like a lot but I made this publication to fill a very niche gap and personally, I’m stoked there are 50 of you out there willing to read it because that’s 50 people that KNOW that trans doesn’t equal straight. By the way, all of my assignments for uni over the last year have been so queerly trans-focused. I should share them on here! Huh, I think I will.

Thank you to all of our readers and an extra special thank you to our Queerly Trans writers. Your willingness to share without restraint and to be the relatable example that many so desperately need to connect with is the reason this publication has followers at all. Thank you for being the change! Love to you all.

Welcome Kitty and Locke

I would like to start by welcoming our newest writers — Kitty Whitemore and locke besse! I’m really excited to welcome you both. I have to mention that Kitty was one of the first writers I followed on here and have enjoyed her work on Prism & Pen (an epic publication if you aren't already up in that).

All the posts

I’ve had to implement a change in the Quintessentials because we are publishing so many amazing articles now! Oh, did you see we reached 50 followers? Hehe. Anyway, because all the things are happening, to keep the Quintessials a reasonable length, instead of posting links to ALL the articles published in the past couple of weeks, I’ll share my ‘Editor’s Picks’ which will be one article from each person who published. I’ll still include all QT writing prompt responses.

Introducing Logan’s Corner

Logan Silkwood has posted up some of his own epic prompts, so, I’m adding a section — Logan’s Corner! Welcome to Logan’s Corner where you will find more delicious writing prompts and replies! Not sure what to write next? The QT writing prompts and Logan’s Corner writing prompts are a great place to start!

CLICK HERE to jump there now (but remember to come back and check out everything else!)

Grrrr… to no images

You may have noticed Medium has… made quite a few changes. I’m still getting used to them both as a writer and editor. I’m not at all happy that I can no longer include an image to the side of this section. It’s ruined the entire layout! I reserve the right to invoke my queer-and-trans-AF QUEER DRAMA CARD and huff away!

Ok, I’m over it. Haha. Let’s get into the Quintessentials!

Queerly Trans Doing a Thing

Did you miss any of these great posts? Well, go check them out.

Puberty 2.0 — HRT 2: Electric Boogaloo by 💜 Victoria Quinn 💜 — 6 Min Read

As I anxiously and with tired patience await my second appointment for a hormone replacement prescription, it occurs to me I haven’t explicitly written about what I am looking forward to most when I finally start taking Estradiol.

How Religion is Helping My Trans Journey by Nova Grace — 4 Min Read

I was raised subscribing to the tenets of Catholicism: the trinity, the virgin Mary, Jesus’s suffering for our eternal salvation… But when I left my quaint (white, Christian, midwestern) hometown for college, I could not ignore the incongruence between the values of my youth and the outside world.

Who Would Have Thunk Queerly Trans was Such a ‘Thing’? by KP_the_writer — 3 Min Read

This one little detail was the block that needed to dissolve so that I could see myself. It’s safe to say that learning that ‘trans doesn’t equal straight’ absolutely changed my life. Probably even saved it!

An Artist Statement In the Works by Jymi Cliche — 4 Min Read

I smoked a lot of weed and accidentally stumbled upon a local “call for artists” on the internet that I wanna submit to. I need to pick out ten pieces to send images of and I had to write an artist statement, so I’ve been putting one together.

I’m Coming Out…Again by Logan Silkwood — 5 Min Read

I know this is going to be a little confusing for you grammatically. You’re already thoroughly accustomed to using the personal pronoun “they” for a non-binary trans man like me. I get it. I know I’m just being difficult now.

Trans Healthcare is a Joke by Kitty Whitemore — 6 Min Read

Imagine, that you have a diagnosed medical condition. You have suffered from this condition for the majority of your life. This condition went undiagnosed for decades in some cases. You suffered from the symptoms of this condition for as long as memory serves. Your infirmity has kept you from attaining your full potential.

When I Was a BabyTrans

We’ve all been there, right? Well, most of us here, I think. Our egg has cracked and for a little while, we are engulfed in learning, embracing, exploring, and yeah, we can seemingly become a little ‘EXTRA.’ I loved my BabyTrans life (I’m barely a toddler) and I’ll never apologize for being extra. So tell us, how were/are you, queerly EXTRA?

Review, journal, creative non-fiction, fiction, memoir, choose your style, and have fun.

You do not need to post your story on Queerly Trans but if you do, tag your story with WRITING PROMPTS. If you post it elsewhere, tag QUEERLYTRANS so that I can read it and get all clappy for you!
