Who Would Have Thunk Queerly Trans was Such a ‘Thing’?

Well, me, but that’s because I’m a big old queer trans

It makes me want to get my genderfuck on and screw the binary in the… Oh, wait, done and done! Haha.

WELCOME to you all and thank you so much for supporting this little publication that was made because:

Trans doesn’t equal straight!

That rhetoric kept me in a glass closet I was unaware of for too many years. This one little detail was the block that needed to dissolve so that I could see myself. It’s safe to say that learning that ‘trans doesn’t equal straight’ absolutely changed my life. Probably even saved it!

We Are Who We Are

Earlier today, I was thinking about a show I watched in 2020 (shortly before my egg disintegrated). Directed by Luca Guadagnino, We Are Who We Are is so totally queerly trans and somehow, I missed that! I wasn’t yet able to see it. And in light of everything I now know, I now understand, I have now experienced, the final episode takes on such a completely new meaning and interpretation. Holy crap (spoiler alert)— that is not a cis-hetero-normative kiss! That is the most adorable queerly trans kiss! And now, I think I need to re-watch the whole show through this new lens of awareness.

The lead actor, Jack Dylan Grazer, is bisexual and uses pronouns he/they. Oh, be still my queerly trans heart! I remember, in my usual fashion, once I finished binge-watching the show, I was fascinated enough to read articles on the show and actors. I couldn’t find it to share here, but I distinctly remember reading an article in 2020 in which Jack said that the show and the character he played, Fraser, encouraged him to question and reflect on himself. And then he came out in 2021.

Why did I share this? Because this is what Queerly Trans is all about — challenging thinking and expanding understanding. Thank you for being a part of that.
