Yes, Simily is for FICTION!

*** You do not need to be a fiction WRITER to join Simily, but please be a fiction READER! ***

Have you heard about Simily? Have you seen all the articles about this new platform? Have you been enticed by the supposed income plan? Have you heard you can copy and paste all your articles from here and have another income stream? STOP! Do you even write fiction?

Simily is for Fiction. That’s its intention. It wants to be like Medium, but for FICTION. How do I know this? Because I sat on a Zoom call for over an hour with the three founders to discuss my thoughts and concerns, tell them what I’d like to see, and hear their goals and plans for the future of Simily. They’ve been doing a number of these calls with those of us over on Simily who are active members.

Simily does not want to be what Medium is now — Medium does a great job of that already. Instead, it was created to fill a gap.

That gap is for FICTION. Fiction writers and fiction readers. Yes, they have a space for non-fiction writing but that is not the primary purpose, so I implore you non-fiction writers, please do non invade this space. Please, PLEASE, let us fiction writers have somewhere where we know people are reading our fiction. Where we aren’t constantly feeling like we share our fiction because it’s our passion, but we write non-fiction because that is how we earn income so that we CAN write fiction. It’s exhausting. It’s heart-breaking!

Just let us have this space — this one CREATED FOR US!

Don’t Dump and Run!

Every time a post goes up on here about the pricing structure of Simily (which WILL change), or how it’s the new Medium, their site crashes because they are a new company, still getting their feet, still building their memberships so that they can expand to allow more. The thing is, so many go join, realize it’s a fiction site, and never come back. They don’t purchase a membership to help the company grow (as I have), they don’t read, they don’t interact. Or worse, they try to dump their non-fiction and then leave. That’s why I unfollow anyone on there that hasn’t been active in the past month. Nor do I read ANY non-fiction unless I know the author shares fiction too.

Please, don’t come to Simily unless you plan to write or read fiction. Please don’t come unless you plan to interact. Please don’t come if you think you can copy and paste your non-fiction and take advantage of the current pricing structure and then leave.

Simily is growing a community. Medium has one and it’s amazing, but it is not conducive to fiction writing. Please don’t try to make Simily Medium.

Help Make Simily Great

Now, if you ARE a fiction writer or reader, man, NOW is the time to join Simily! They are in their rapid growth phase attracting writers (FICTION writers) and soon (if they haven’t already) they will switch their focus to growing readership. So now is the time as a fiction writer or reader to join Simily. Make connections and create bonds with other writers, like me.

** I just emailed the founders to ask if they have plans to deal with this influx of non-fiction writing overtaking fiction. I’m confident they already have thoughts in action.
