Walkabout Writers and Their First Piece

Jane Frost (Jane Grows Garden Rooms) leads us on our travels as she writes from Australia about ‘culinary delights and medicinal marvels’ of Indigenous Australians. Jane is a skilled gardener and historian of the native plants and ‘Bush Tucker’. Find more of her work at Tea with Mother Nature.

James Beaufait intrigues us from romantic Hawaii where he’s fallen deeply in love with Mother Nature. He’ll be sharing stories about plants and people and foods with an island twist. If you’re not reading the stories of this islander you’ll want to start. Besides being an interesting writer he’s a kind and very witty person!

Kris Bedenian is a woman to admire. She’ll be sharing recipes and kitchen chats to help people wanting to explore easy ways to add nutritious food to their lives. She shares a bit about her healthy food journey here.

JM Heatherly loves to research and learn about herbs and he excels at organizing his treasured finds both in each story and on his blog. I really admire the consistency in the form he uses to share what he learns. It’s exciting to know this gardener will be leading the way for future generations.

Nancy Blackman has a strong understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine and brings her research skills to her stories about plants. She’s very modest, but she knows her stuff and takes great care to assimilate research with practice. Nancy often brings her Korean heritage to her stories and recipes in a way only she can.

Julie Gaeta is an Accredited Health Coach and authentic Mexican cook. As she walks about with us on our journey, she’ll share her herbal tea recipes, nutritious smoothies, and cooking bites with a Mexican flare. Having nine children, Julie has mastered creating nutrient-dense dishes that are…. well, edible — from a kid's point of view.

Krista Bennett is a photographer and homesteader who grows and preserves much of her family's food. She’ll bring her vast knowledge of — oh my, I don’t know how to summarize it. Let's just say there’s little waste on her farm. Every part of the plant is used. From seed saving to making specialty meat rubs (meat rubs can be used on cauliflower, cabbage and other veggies!) from vegetable scraps — she does it all.

Nutrient-dense whole food from plants — from grapefruit, asparagus, spinach, turmeric to blueberries — can be a problem if you're eating processed foods and taking prescription medications. It may take your body a while to get used to any diet changes. Always consult with your physician or a qualified health care provider before making any lifestyle or dietary changes.
