What is this “Bush Tucker” you speak of?
Bush Tucker is so pervasive in Australian vernacular that it never occurred to me that it was a singularly Australian term. It’s used to describe Australian native plants, animals and insects that Indigenous Australians used to sustain their lifestyles before colonisation.
In fact, many of the early European explorers and settlers also consumed Bush Tucker before European species were introduced to the continent.
There’s a general, and incorrect, assumption by white Australians that this sunburned country was barren, but a little research reveals that healthy and tasty Bush Tucker is everywhere if you only know where to look for it.
In Australian Bush Tucker Bites the focus is on the flora that sustained the Indigenous people and how it is used now. Join me for culinary delights and medicinal marvels!
