Portabella Pizza is My New Love

If you’re looking for a low fat, low carb, and nutritionally packed pizza look no further!

I love pizza and it is one of the things I’ve denied myself that I miss the most!

Until I discovered how to make pizza with Portobello mushroom tops instead of pizza crust.

And you know what? It is delicious and packed full of dense low carb nutrition.

Mushrooms are low in fat and high in protein, essential amino acids, and fiber.

Always a good thing!

Mushrooms also provide vitamins, particularly niacin, riboflavin, thiamine, biotin, and ascorbic acid.

Although there are many types of mushrooms and their nutritional value will vary, Portobello mushrooms are packed full of vitamins A and C, B-vitamins. They also contain essential minerals including potassium, iron, selenium, and phosphorus.

According to the American Institute of Cancer Research, some mushrooms contain Phytochemicals which are being studied as possible cancer-fighting properties.

All that great news aside the recipe is pretty straight forward.

Portobello Mushroom Pizza Recipe

  • Take Portobello mushroom cap and place upside down on pan.
  • Spread pizza sauce on mushroom.
  • Add cheese (I use low-fat cheese) and any other ingredients you love on your pizza.
  • Bake at 350 for 10 -15 minutes.

TIP: I didn’t like the moisture that came out of the mushroom the first time I made it, so now, I place the caps in my dehydrator for about a half hour to pull out some of the moisture.

Bon Appetit!
