WEEKLY WRAP-UP
Globetrotter’s Stories November 12th— 18th, 2023
Bringing you much more monochrome!

I couldn’t help it but share this photo of my sunset this evening. I know it isn’t monochrome, but there are many of those photos this week! I will admit, I wasn’t sure how this month’s prompt would go over. In fact, in speaking with the other editors, none of us were sure. But you all have bowled us over with your creative responses, which is surely turning into one of the best challenges yet!
I do feel it necessary to remind people that if you want your article to be part of the challenge, you must tag your article with ‘monthly challenge’ and post two articles of other Globetrotter writers in the article.
Without further ado, let’s see the responses that came in this past week:
Monthly Challenge
Serhii Onkov shows us some eerie images of an abandoned nuclear power plant in Ukraine. I would have been too scared to venture too far into this place!
Mario López-Goicoechea begrudgingly shares some black-and-white photos of London’s Armistice Day.
Caterina tells us of a horrific history in Poland.
KL Simmons needs that bit of sun to break up her winters.
Aaron Paulson brings us some history of Japan and the Buddhist temple of Kita-in.
Rosa No Mundo shares her profound experience in Cambodia’s killing fields. These experiences transform us in one way or the other, I am sure.
Vickey Maverick. shares some interesting images around India.
I, Jillian Amatt - Artistic Voyages, take you on a voyage through the gray days we have experienced while back in Canada.
Oksana Kukurudza's Sunflowers Rarely Break has a lucky encounter with monk seals near a forbidden island in Hawaii.
Favorite Read
I was happy to see that Paul S. Marshall’s article was boosted because it needs to be read by as many people as possible. Travel really has changed the landscape of many places, and the locals are the ones who bear the brunt of the burdens. In Paul’s article, he accurately portrays how entitled travelers seem to be these days.
Many don’t realize what a privilege traveling is and how fortunate we are to be able to set foot in another country, let alone another continent. His article might be a lot to take in for some, but it needs to be said. Great job Paul!
Someone has to lose, and let me tell you, it won’t be the tourists. They expect to be accommodated, without considering the impact that those accommodations might have on the local population.
Spotlight Stories
Warren Thurlow tells us more about himself in his spotlight story.
Have you written a spotlight story yet? It is a great way for us all to learn more about you. Our publication owner, JoAnn Ryan, has put together an outline for you if you are interested:
A-Z Travel Story Challenge
Erie Astin tells us about her favorite W — Winchester, England.
Europe
Carol Labuzzetta, MS Natural Resources, MS Nursing tells us about the windmills of The Netherlands. I do want to see these someday!
She then takes us to some beautiful churches around Europe.
Ryan Frawley tells of a hilarious adventure to Costco, of all places, while living in Spain.
Adrienne Beaumont is really seeing and doing it all on her latest 4-month-long adventure!
OnYourFeet got to attend a pretty cool-looking festival! There is so much color!
Antonio Duplessis tells us about the realities of living the nomad life. I’ve been interested in these co-working places but have not gone to one yet.
Vickey Maverick. takes us on a journey through Delft. And it’s not just about the pottery.
Tim Ward, Mature Flâneur learns a thing or two about the old masters, and so did I!
Matthew David happens upon a writer's workshop in Paris. It sounds like a transformational experience.
Asia
Last week Ronald Smit quizzed us with photos and asked us to guess where he was. This week he reveals the answers.
Pablo Tovar has an interesting experience in Vietnam with the locals.
Dr. Preeti Singh always shares fascinating experiences with us. This one is no different.
Tara Torres gives us a realistic look at Dubai. It’s a place that intrigues me, but I have not traveled much in that part of the world yet.
This would be my second favorite article this past week. Manas Patil has a chance encounter with an Indonesian lady on the bus in India. I love these heart-felt human-to-human interactions that travel can, and should, bring.
Africa
Bettina Lee shares her honest story about the corrupt police that exist in Uganda. I lived in Uganda for about a year and I can attest that, sadly, these sorts of things happen frequently.
The Americas
Julia A. Keirns’ photos of the fall leaves in Talladega are beautiful. What a stunning part of the US. And I thought Talladega was just about car racing!
Kris Fricke shares an experience in Santa Marta, Columbia. Another beautiful-looking part of the world!
Sh*t Happens - Lost Girl Travel tells us about a hidden treasure in Guatemala. I envy the time she spent there because we only got a couple of hours — not long enough to go to the lookout. It truly is a spectacular place.
Kenny Minker discovers a bit of Germany in Peru. Who knew!?
Oxapampa: German Heritage in the Peruvian Jungle
Visiting a remote, unique region of Peru
medium.com
Nate Lost shares a very real experience in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Australia & New Zealand
Anne Bonfert bears witness to New Zealand attempting to right its wrongs of the past.
Warren Thurlow has an amazing encounter with some lovely-looking fish on the Great Barrier Reef. I’m pretty sure this guy was featured in Finding Nemo.

Barb Dalton reviews her experience with Skycouch. I had never heard of it.
I definitely understand TRAVEL STORIES BY GABE as he tells us about having to say goodbye a lot with his chosen lifestyle. It is never easy!
