How I Become A Top Writer On Women And Feminism Topics

From a writer who has 80 followers.

Saying out loud that I am a writer, giving me goose bumps. If I tell you the truth, I didn’t actually know what it means to be a top writer and how it can impact your profile and stats, until very recently.

Honestly my only purpose was to write and share the stories I feel strongly about. I write about things around self-improvement, productivity, woman’s life, health, and work-life balance. I am glad that people resonate with my stories and share their responses on my life experiences.

Just to give a background about myself, I started writing on Medium in January 2021. It was my way to heal myself from all the heartbreaks I had and this platform gave me a place to share my vulnerability.

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.” — Brené Brown

It was not because I wanted to write for top publications or wanted to raise myself like a writer or an influencer. It just sort of happened.

So how can I become a top writer? If you see the summary below, I really don’t have many views and fans ( recently it has changed to claps).

As I am writing this article, I precisely have 80 followers and below is the snap shot of my stats for last 30 days. I am sharing lessons learned on how to become a top writer in any given topic. Hope it helps.

Just write and publish your work frequently.

I have seen many suggesting you need to publish 4–5 times a week. It may be true but I am more focused on quality than quantity and usually publish only once in a week.

If you want to publish more, you can start with 2–3 times in a week and see how it goes. The goal here is to become a consistent writer.

Tag the stories appropriately.

There are 5 tags that you can add to your stories. So choose the tags that resonate with your story.

You can modify the tags after you publish your story as well in case you think you didn’t add the right tags before. You can look for some of the popular tags on Medium depends.

Here is the list of popular tags that I received from Tom Kuegler.

Don’t put much thought into stats, claps or followers.

First of all it’s not good for your mental health. Instead just share your stories and publish.

When I publish a story I never look back to the same article again. As soon as I hit publish I start thinking about my next story and most of my stories are drawn from my life and personal experiences at that time. So no shortage of content, right? 😊

You don’t need publication to promote your work with highest number of followers

When I started writing, I used to submit my articles to related publications and follow their guidelines, but I hardly received any feedback from editors and sometimes they took even more than a week to review my drafts.

Starting my own publication was one of the best things I did.

I understand they might be bombarded with submissions but it was heartbreaking especially when I saw them publishing stories that doesn’t have good content.

Since then I stopped sending my articles to publications and started my own publication — Just Be You. Starting my own publication was one of the best things I did.

“One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.” - Shannon L. Alder.

It gives me mental peace and stops drooling over the rejection comments. I am not a professional writer to be honest but top publications doesn't need to be overly critical of someone’s work.

Lastly,

You will find hundreds of articles on mediums on do this and do that. I think if you are an aspiring writer, we need to learn the art of storytelling and how the story has impacted your life and how it can make a difference in other lives too.

So if you want to be successful, yes you have to work every single day but if you are looking for easy money making or to have thousands of followers, this article might not be for you.

But if you want to become a consistent writer and a good story teller, you might learn a thing or two here.

In the end, the choice is yours and I have made mine. I’m grateful and in love with what I do, and I pass on love and gratitude to you too.
