WEEKLY ROUNDUP OF FEATURED POSTS

Coffee Times Weekly Roundup — 14

This week’s featured stories from Coffee Times and across Medium

(First published at Coffee Times Substack)

How are you, Coffee Times mates? News of rising numbers related to the ongoing pandemic is in the spotlight and I hope you are all staying safe, wearing masks, washing hands — and social distancing of course.

Fortunately, you can engage with your fellow writers safely via published words quite safely.

If you have always wanted to write your own weekly newsletter but didn’t know how to start, now is your chance to take the leap and also win US$100 in the process. Yay! Go ahead, change your life by taking part in the latest Coffee Challenge announced by Winston. Here are the guidelines.

What treat do I have for you today?

Jackfruit halwa. I remember the first time one of my mom’s students brought us a big batch from Kerala. I was overwhelmed and skeptical at the same time — wondering how on earth we would finish it. Skeptical because I wasn’t too keen on the taste. But you know how some things grow on you? This is one of those. Yes, needless to say, I slurped it all off. I’d get back from work and settle down with a bigger-than-I-should-eat piece and enjoy it thoroughly. Yum! And to think that the idea of jackfruit halwa made me screw up my face. I apologized to the halwa, blew it kisses, and gave it a great big hug — inside my tummy! Love the nut overdose in it.

And now, some reading pleasure with this week’s picks

From Coffee Times

Biliz Maharjan says doing what you love is not enough for success — and that you need to be exceptional. Don’t miss the takeaways in his post.

If you are a writer looking for publications, Megan Llorente might have just the list you are looking for! I know I am looking forward to checking out a couple of these.

I have to agree with Rhea Anglesey when she suggests laughing your way to better health. I mean, laughter IS the best medicine, isn’t it?

And if you are struggling with a sugar addiction, it might be easier to kick it for good than you think, says The Silent Wave. Great tips in there!

Can indulging our emotional cravings with food boost our social health? Irene Fassler believes it can — she says sharing our comfort foods and cooking experiences magnifies the power of edible love. I like the sound of that!

Can you say “Hello” in Japanese? There is more to it than Konnichiwa! Read this delightful post by Diane Neill Tincher as she takes us through the journey of this Japanese greeting!

I loved this post by Sandi Parsons where she talks about a book character she loves — I must admit that it is most inspiring.

And while we’re on the path of inspiration, you must read Karen Schwartz’s post where she emphasizes and illustrates why we can’t know where we want to go until we name what we want. Reminds me of the quote: if you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there!
