Third Month on Medium Stats: The Only Way Is Up!
I almost tripled my second month earnings.

Weirdly enough, my earnings are exactly what I thought they would be. And they’re not bad at all!
The first of the month is my favorite day, Medium wise. It’s the day of reckoning, the day when I see how good I’ve done.
Ok, I’ll admit it, Medium became a bit of an obsession.
But I see no harm in it. I love writing, I love reading, I love seeing success from something I enjoy doing, and sharing a caring community with you guys is the best gift!
So let’s see what happened in June.
I’ve seen a lot of people complain of the same thing: their reads and views took a dive starting mid-June. Mine did too. It was only natural in the summer months and there was no need to cry about it. I even wrote an article to help others and myself feel better.
Spoiler alert: I expect them to go even lower in July.
Another thing that took a dive was my number of followers. But I couldn’t blame summer for that, that was entirely my fault. I tested a new method to get followers and it failed. You can read about that here:
I ended up with 2060 followers at the end of June. That’s almost 600 more than last month, but on my first month I got 500 and on my second 1000, so I could have done better if I had just stuck with the method I knew worked. Oh, well.
On the other hand, what went up is the number of e-mail subscribers: I got an extra 55 subscribers this month. which I believe is due to my ‘subscribe for subscribe’ method, detailed here:
I now have a total of 121 e-mail subscribers.
Another thing that went up was my number of published stories. But this was by accident.
This month I published 34 articles. That’s 4 more than the previous 2 months. I decided at some point that I’d be writing 30 articles a month but as we all know, when you submit to various publications, sometimes it happens that all articles are published at the same time.
So I had a day with 3 articles published and another day when I had 0. I didn’t want to leave more than 1 day with 0 articles, just in case the algorithm forgets about me. I know it doesn’t happen so fast, but I kind of felt bad to leave a gap in my publishing days, so I self-published some.
That’s how I ended up with 34.
Another great thing that happened is that I got 3 Top Writer badges: in Advice, Writing, and Creativity.
They probably don’t help me much, but I was happy because I never thought that would happen. I’m not a native speaker and it’s one of the first things I learned on Medium: if English is not your mother tongue, don’t expect much success. It’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely. Your growth is going to be even slower than usual, you’re probably never going to get Top Writer and never going to get curated. Or viral.
They were wrong.
I got Top Writer. I also got curated. And an article went viral.
Curated with this article:
And viral with this article.
However, my curation rate is extremely low.
Actually, the article I mentioned was the only one that got ‘chosen for further distribution’. Out of 94. So… sigh.
My viral rate is low as well. There were only 2 viral articles so far, the one that I mentioned and one more from my first month but most of its views were external, so I didn’t make much from it anyway.
I’m not so upset about that except for one reason.
As I stated before, I am not here for fame. But I do enjoy the money.
And since I mentioned it, last month I was ecstatic that I got in the 100$ club on my second month on Medium.
But this month I almost tripled it. I made 333.01$.
I said my earnings are exactly what I thought they would be. Ok, I’ll admit it, I didn’t predict the 3.01. But I did think it would be 330$.
And then when I saw the views go down I thought I overreached. And then somehow they just went up in the last week and it reached almost the exact number I anticipated. Weird, isn’t it?
I want to make a prediction for July and I want to be held accountable by you guys. I think I’ll make 520$. I’m not just spewing numbers. Hear me out.
My earnings are 333 this month because I had that one story go viral. So I need to subtract that from the equation and I am left with 7$ a day. That’s a 1.75$ per day growth from the previous month. But because it’s deep summer and people don’t read that much, I’ll give it a 1.5 growth. And add a 20$ tip for myself.
Yes, it’s Math and we all hate it but let’s see if it works or if I’m just fooling myself.
I’m very pleased with this month’s results. Apart from the earnings, I love writing more and more and it gets easier for me to get into a state of flow and effortlessly write for hours.
And I’ve been chasing this state of flow for years. I’m so happy to be getting closer to it.
And I know very well that, just like me, you all want to earn from what you love doing. In this case, it’s writing.
That’s why I’m preparing a step-by-step course on how to make it on Medium from day 1. It will be so well put together that you’ll be able to see instant results. You think no one can guarantee that? It’s true. If you’ve been cursed by The Black Wizard in The Shadow Forest of Forgotten Time, you’ll fail.
But in all other cases, I can guarantee it. Because I know very well how I did it. It wasn’t by chance, it didn’t just happen, and a lot of odds were against me. But I studied the platform and did the right things from the get-go and it worked. It was all strategy and planning.
And if I did it, everyone can do it. Keep in touch if you’re everyone.
How about you? How did you do? Did summer get you or are you surfing on dollars this June?
